Motorcyclist killed in Highway 17 crash

A 55-year-old man from Chelmsford, Ont., died Thursday after his motorcycle went off Highway 17 and crashed in a ditch northwest of Deep River.
Ontario Provincial Police said the motorcyclist was travelling eastbound on the highway near Colton Creek Road in the township of Laurentian Hills when he appeared to lose control while overtaking another vehicle.
The motorcycle came to rest in a ditch, police said.
He was transported to hospital in Deep River where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
The highway was reduced to one lane for about eight hours while police investigated the incident.
