Crossborder Duty?

Since you are riding, you will be in full video survillance on what you are wearing.

You will be heading down on a T-shirt, back with full gear and a passenger helmet.....

There is probably a very low chance they will go to that extend to review the video of you leaving and re-entering back to the Canadian boarder but its something they can just do and you are fxxk!!

Thanks for the calling ahead tip. Good point.

And golly better lock me up then. I feel like such a rebel - really! Also, maybe some of you should learn to read carefully :)

Thanks for the info! Will keep in mind :)

If anyone else has stories specifically about crossing the border on a bike with merchandise please share.

In the meantime, I'm going to browse the board where everyone's trying to save a dolla by circumventing traffic violations :)

I suggest that you stop posting. You are really falling into the dumb criminal pool.
So you are about to ride at least 2-5 hours each way to buy a jacket in another country and it never dawned on you to call ahead to ensure and possibly reserve one for your size.

I don't think you comprehend the concept of risk and reward.

You do know there are CBSA Officers on this forum right?
You have done a great job telling them your scheme and even better told them that you ride a 2007 Solar Yellow Ex500.

BuckWild. It's funny how assert your apparent deduction skills when it's simply a veil for assumptions. Like really, you've character analyze me over 2-3 posts? LOL :)

Maybe if you reread the first sentence post you'll pick up on that I'm making a bike trip and swinging by STG is only part of the plan and not the main focus. Also, I'm not really hard pressed to buy any particular jacket - it's more a window shopping detour and if there's a nice jacket, it'll be purchased. Me thanking the poster for that good tip is out of politeness, not necessarily applicable or reflection of my lack of planning or thought.

CBSA Officers reading this forum? Whoop-dee-doo. I've crossed the border multiple times carrying goods by car/van without declaring. I'm scared now. There's an entire board of people scheming and lying to get their speeding tickets dropped by fooling the court system :D Give me a break. My eyes can't roll fast enough.

I hope that answers some of your concerns. Don't you worry, I'm pretty smart guy ;)

Not sure what you are Double Facepalming about but maybe you read too fast again. :)

Anyway, you win! I admit defeat :) My mistake for derailing the thread and replying to you.

If anyone wants to further add their experience traveling cross border with merchandise on bike please share! :)

I am guessing the 'triple' double facepalming allude to that comment???

Also, I am not sure about further experience on crossing boarders with merchandise... are you looking for techniques like hiding it in the rear seats or what to say to avoid custom if you are trying not to declare anything?

Well one tip, certain grocery items are duty free

http://www.crossbordershopping.ca/us-grocery-shopping-canadians

As for bike gear, I am afraid you either suck it up, declare and pay or just take the risk, take off the tags and wear it back to Canada.

As I said on my earlier post, it would not be hard for them to proof you have brought stuff back with you without declaring with the video.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

Please, there is an entire board discussing tricks and strategies in the justice system on dropping/lowering/delaying traffic charges and I'm getting facepalm for duty discussion. Everyone is guilty of speeding but here people are discussing ways to cheat the system. BuckWild is a troll. He left his responses vague enough for interpretation. Troll is a troll. Enough said.

I'm interesting in stories of people trying to not declare, stories they've heard, or anything related to bringing merchandise back without declaring on a bike. My friend has gone through with stuff in his bike luggage case.

I've always just taken tags off everything when crossing in cars/vans. Never had a problem. I was curious to know if they give bikers are harder time or anything of that sort. Or if they know of guards looking for anything particular on bikes that happen a lot. :)

Sure ill bite

Years ago went to buffalo with a friend to bring rims over for his car. He specified a lower amount and the guards took a second look. Separated us from the get go, went into a nice room and the questioning started. I said i didn't know anything about the amount of money that was exchanged, he claimed a lower price then originally was paid and stuck to it.

They went through his wallet, his laptop, took apart half the car, and in the end couldn't get a hold of the guy he bought it from so they let us go. We get home and he gets a phone call from them telling him he's got a couple hours to come back to the border and pay the remaining duty + penalty. they got a hold of the guy who sold the rims and asked him how much he sold them for. He lied as well, to which they replied with what denominations was it paid. Both him and the seller said 2 different things, busted!

We were just kids at the time so the guy was kind enough to leave it at that, explained to us what the repercussions could have been, pointing to an area of a boat and a truck worth well over 50,000$ that they have seized.

Many people I know also use this: http://shiptotheborder.com/
There are many border services for Canadians that want to have products ship to the border so you can pick up yourself through the border instead of paying heavy duty/shipping charges cross border. Works well just in case people want to know :)

Damn, Paul. Close call there! What a story.

I've had STG ship me a pair of gloves declaring 'gift' before. They no longer do that for Canadians anymore though because they got nailed so I hear. But I think they would still do it for some people or if you need an exchange.

Two months ago I brought a laptop, some records, and clothing back via van. Just threw the box and everything away for laptop.
