Crackdown on sidewalk parking - attn:scooters

This is bupkus.
People should be able to park motorized and large size vehicles on the sidewalk.
I mean who needs these massive sidewalks that we have.

WTH!
This guy is now giving them ideas to charge us for street parking.
duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"He said he’s now seeing more of the two-wheeled vehicles parked on the street. But he pointed out they are taking up spots that cars would be paying for. Parking is free for motorcycles, mopeds and scooters in metered pay-and-display spaces."

So they stop parking on the sidewalk, until the blitz is over, then go right back to it after they stop enforcement.

And you believe that the City will just forget the bylaw and not write them a ticket after.
It's easy money for the City.

Yes, that's what I believe. It has been easy money for the city all along. Their attention span for this won't be any longer than it is for drivers who block intersections, cyclists who ride on sidewalks, or pedestrians who cross against signals.

I'm not saying it's not the right thing to do but if you don't consistently enforce a law, then it might as well not exist.

That's what I thought. But apparently this is the new order (somebody posted in another forum after calling some people)... Indeed, it is easy money for the city, at $60 per scooter... just imagine, in the last 3 days they already wrote up probably 1,000 additional tickets... maybe more...

Let's be clear - The crackdown is revenue-based. First, hundreds and hundreds of tickets to all scooters on the sidewalk.
So, all scooters'll come down to the road, to use the pay-and-display spots for free.
Then, car drivers complain to City Hall that there are not enough pay-and-display spots, and that is not fair that 2-wheel vehicles don't pay.

Then, Rob Ford will listen to these "concerned citizens"... go ahead and... no more free motorcycle parking!! Everybody will have to pay. The City gets additional revenue that doesn't exist right now.

we have another thread that's been going on for more than a year now on the free motorcycle parking issue... see the stickies section

Today I saw 2 scooters parked on the sidewalk beside each other. One had a ticket, one didn't. The difference? One was an e-scooter of exactly the same size except it had no license plate so no ticket. No license, registration, insurance or parking tickets. If you can't beat'em, join'em. I'm going e-scooter shopping.

What do you mean? Did someone else already posted my theory there?
Or should I go and post there, instead of here?

Yes, post there to cover both bases.

If interested in the fight to keep scooters on sidewalks:

1- Here's a petition: http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitio...ing-scooters-for-parking-on-toronto-sidewalks
2- Here's the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/SaveOurScootersToronto?fref=ts
3- And here is the update from Councillor Matlow's office

They are currently seeking a councillor to bring Councillor Matlow's letter to this month's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. This is the committee to which this matter should be addressed. They hope to confirm shortly that it will be on the committee agenda for Thursday, June 20. If it is supported there it will then be considered by City Council at its meeting on July 16-17. I will update you once this is confirmed.

I inquired as to whether they could inform parking services to delay enforcement of the bylaw pending this reconsideration. I am advised that the best person to contact about the staff decision to begin an enforcement campaign is Constable Hugh Smith of Traffic Services.

If an SOS Toronto follower has free time during the day and can place a call with this request, it would be appreciated. The reason for the sudden decision to enforce this bylaw and the number of actual complaints received about scooter parking on sidewalks would be useful to know.

As I receive updates, I will pass them on.
