Contour GPS mounting advice

Morning errybody,

Finally got my contour camera from UPS!! However, all the time I was sitting here just waiting for it to arrive, I hadnt put any though into how and where to get quality footage. I placed the rotating flat mount on the top of my helmet, which from reviewing the footage appears to be great when getting filming a subject or a group ride from the front or from behind, but is weird looking when just recording the ride as you get no perspective of the bike or rider in any of the footage. Before I go spending money on mounts and sticking stuff to my bike that I may not be able to unstick without effort, I thought I would ask for any ideas that have worked for other people. I also picked up the ConnectView, so if anyone has lighting and effect tips I'll take those too. Also a question, is it better to buy the mounts that I specifically need individually, or should I just buy one of their mount packs and try to macgyver what I need from them?

I mounted mine to the side of my helmet.. it's OK, not great.. so I'm also looking for a mounting point on the bike itself. I'll let you know if I figure anything out

Cool, Im just glad Imnot the only one needing advice. I know everything contour has to offer accessory-wise, but Im not so good with video camera work. Also I dont want to position the camera somewhere and find out two hours after a great ride I got no real usable footage. I found a site that offers kits made up of different companies accessories along with the stock stuff has anyone else seen or used it? http://www.launchhelmetcams.ca/accessories/vholdr/mounts

I also had an editing question, the Contour Storyteller app, it doesnt allow to edit your footage does it? Just uploading and sharing via their community. What good is that? I dont wanna post vids of myself sitting at red lights, I need my vids to be.....tasteful, eye catching and thought provoking. I want you to leave your desk with your mind properly blown and your hair standing on end saying to yourself "Holy crap, was that 3D?!" Or something pretty close to that. Can anyone help me do that?

Could even be the ContourGPS mounting may be different than others due to the lens 130deg vs 170deg. I ended up with the GPS myself, just due to cost it was cheaper than the roam at the time.

I plan on getting a RAM mount so I can adjust it where I want it easier.

Nice link :) But it seems that for all the mounts, except the suction cup mount, assume that your mounting surface will be round. I know at one point i wanna try and mount mine to the swingarm, but there isnt anything round on it except the tire. How trustworthy are suction cup mounts?
 
read the post where someone lost their gopro due to suction cup mount :) the swingarm is square(at least mine is), so some square brackets from HD and a little tinkering and you can make a mount to work.
 
Gecko Fat Max suction cup system. Very easy to adjust to any angle.
Gecko Stealth also works, but is at a fixed angle. Guess that's the good thing about the Contour's rotating lens.

Oh yeah, tape a foam earbud over the microphone post haste to help alleviate wind noise a little...

Good call with the foam earbud!!! Its like your in my brain reading my next question, but do you just hold the earbud over the mic hole and tape it down, or is there some technique to it? I was thinking using glue for a more permanent solution, but do you find yourself having to remove the earbud or can it stay there?

Im liking the Fat max dual suction, one icase the other fails!! So I guess my first contour accessory purchase should be that universal camera mount. Seems like theres aftermarket solutions I hadnt thought of.

Just use electrical tape over the ear bud. That way you can take it off easily as necessary... if you're out for a ride with some friends and end up at an outdoor patio or whatever and want to record the shenanigans, just lift off the tape.

The Gecko Fat Max (dual suction cup) was tested on the wings of planes doing aerial acrobatics. Stayed on fine at 200 mph+. It's kind of bulky, as the dual cups take a lot of space. I'd strongly suggest the single cup version and using a tether to the bike.

Why not just lower the mic volume on the recording setting? you can bring it way down to eliminate wind, then when out with friends change the mode and have a higher mic level.

Or if you have android/iphone change it on the fly via blue tooth.

just some additional options.

ya I got the contour connect, but I brought the volume down to 10 and the wind is the most prominent sound in the vid. I tried the foam from an earbud but I don't think I placed it correctly cuz the wind was still pretty loud. I'm goin to try just the electrical tape later as soon as I get out of the barbershop.
