Coming to your neighbourhood...

Correctly designed roundabouts - with a central reservation between the opposing directions on each approach road, and with the approach road bending as it merges with the roundabout to guide people in the proper direction - virtually eliminate direct straight-on "T-bone" crashes and it makes it much easier for people to go the correct direction around the roundabout as opposed to turn backwards (almost a U-turn) to go the wrong way. Sideswipes (at relatively shallow angles) and rear-enders, sure, but those have much less severity. The problem is that such a roundabout takes space, and in a city with everything fully developed around it, it's not happening. All of the rural roundabouts (and in new-development urban areas) have these design features.

I still think they cheap out on the size even rural therefore not enough merge space or lane cross-over space.

I've seen a roundabout in rural Europe (Switzerland? not sure) that consisted of a flowerpot in the middle of the intersection with arrows facing each approach road "thataway around this flowerpot"! Obviously this was on a road not suitable for heavy truck traffic.

The amount of brake dust created when stopping and gas wasted accelerating from 4 way stops..got to add up. Get the environmental people behind changing road design ?

Yes - I read that the initial installation of 50 cameras starts in 2020 where fine revenue and processing fee revenue (from other municipalities) is expected to make the program fully cost recoverable, projected charge volumes to be over 650,000 per year for the period 2020 through 2022 respectively.

Net Revenue projected to bring in $7 million in 2020, and estimated to net $24 million for 2 years 2021-2022 after taking into account operating expenditures
