Cold tires, cold asphalt, SLOW DOWN

Is it also possible that after 6-8 months of riding that we are riding more aggressively and taking more chances?

Cold tires may be half of it, but the kinds of risk I will take in Sept are different than what I would take after 3-4 months off in March.

Leaves though, man, those are like autumnal black ice.

something i as a new rider didnt give much thought,I will be taking it easy for the first 5-10 minutes in the cold mornings for sure.

Watch out for metal on the road in cold weather especially (e.g., train/street car tracks)

One of the first bikes I owned had a Metzeler Interact Z2 rear. I don't know if it was just because it was old, or if it was not a great design, but it SUCKED in the wet and the cold. On a fall morning I could easily spin the tire just leaving a stoplight, and I could feel the bike sliding around on on-ramps. It did a good job of teaching me about taking care of cold tires though. :P

Naa. Our bikes make HUGE power in the cold weather, so we squeeze it when we can! Just sucks along with the increase in power comes the decrease in traction :(

Would you do anything to your pressures for the cold weather? A week or two ago we did a very early group ride (7am) and it was 7 degrees out when I left. I dropped my PSI a bit in my rear thinking that'd make my tire heat up/keep heat in it better. But I found it really "greasy", seem to slide a bit on corner entry but felt planted once leaned over.

So, up the pressure to spec because you're tire isn't going to get hot enough to bring them up. It'll feel planted but could slide out with no warning?

Or lower the pressure so the tire gets/stays hotter, feels squirmier but actually sticks better?

No I dont get that technical, I just dont be an idiot and ride hard into the first corner I see on a cold day....I did that 10+ years ago when I was a newb, since that low side Ive smartened up...A little...

Ok. I ran my usual pressures at TMP yesturday (32f 30r) and everything worked well, even got my tire a little melty so ish was workin good :) Just did an extra slow first lap out, maybe 60% second lap, 80% third lap then as much as my tires would allow the rest of the time. Loving these S20's, they really let you know when you're getting near the traction limit, little slide, little flex, but don't give out on ya!!

As long as the roads are clear I brush the snow off and go for a rip!

Which reminds me, I better get my heated grips installed on my R1! Yikes!

AWESOME! I am selling my sled for sure!

Those are pretty cool, I did see a demo out west last winter, but it's not a sled.
close enough!
it's the motorcycle version of a sled. It's just a sled with only 1 ski in front instead of 2! And you don't even have to use a pull cord!!!!!!
