Cheap Camping Alberta-Ontario

Hey

So this Friday I leave Alberta to head back towards Ontario. I'm doing some maintenance tonight and am looking for any cheap places anyone knows to stay along the way. I did the camping thing on the way out, but it poured every night and by the end of the trip I was just miserable. I was thinking of going to Minot, spend a night there, then minneapolis, night there, then chicago night there and then to the GTA.

Opinions?

I would avoid anywhere near Chicago if you can. Traffic is brutal. The good thing about coming back through the States, is gas and motels are mostly cheaper. The Sherman Inn in Wolf Point, Montana was $60, Northland Inn (but there is a RR track behind it,that was busy at night)Crookston, Minnesota was $50, forgot where I stayed outside Marquette, Michigan but it was $50. Highway 2 was great and not too much traffic, although it got weird going through Duluth with the construction. This was last year. If you didn't go North shore of Superior, I would alter your travel and do that for sure. Worth the extra time. If you go that way, the Timberland Motel in Dryden was cheap and so was the Algoma Motel in Wawa.

I am sure some others will chime in.

Good luck on your trip.

not sure how flooded minot still is (it was under water the end of july). you do want to be careful there, when I was out west I was hearing reports of canadian's cars being vandalized because of the flooding (the water came from canada and i guess they don't understand water flows down hill).

If you decide to come back via canada avoid anything in the kenora area, I ended up paying $40 for an unserviced camp site in a provincial camp ground.
