Change tire size?

I'm ready to change the tires on my 2013 BMW F700GS. I've selected the Shinko 705 series but they don't have my exact rear tire. The OEM tire is a 140/80-R 17 (69V)TL. The closest Shinko has is a 150/70R 17. I believe that is 1cm wider but about the same height.

Is it ok to make a switch up the size or should I stick to the original size and just find another brand?

You are fine doing that.
I rode an R3 for 2.5 years and the majority of the people on the R3 forum ended up swapping out the crappy stock tires from 140/70-17 to a 150/60-17. We did this because it was hard to find a good sticky tire that was available in the stock size.
It's totally up to you. You can search around for a tire that suits you in the stock size or go with the slightly larger size.
