I am looking to purchase a chain riveter. I am trying to figure out what would work with my chain.

My chain is Renthal 520 R4 SRS.
It comes with "The Renthal "Road R4" chain is supplied with a solid pin rivet link, matching the durability of the chain."

What kind of riveter works for that chain?

Motion pro kit:

Any one of those you posted will work, just different brand, styles and prices....All do the same thing in the end....If your only going to use it once in a while its ok to cheap out, but if you plan to use it often then spend the money on a good one...The cheap ones wear out fast

Yes they will work just fine, for a one time or a few time use...Personally I rivet about 10-30 chains a year...And in my experience the cheap ones wear out faster....Thats why I said if your only going to use it once, or a few times then a cheap one is fine...If your going to use it a lot then I suggest investing in a good quality one...

I had a cheap $50 one, the pin used to push pins out started at about 1/2" long...Even thou I always grind the head off the pins before using it to break chains, it still bent and deformed every time I broke a chain...Which required me to grind it down so many times it ended up wearing out completely....Then I have to go buy another one, if you spend $100 or more it should last forever...And also the good quality ones like Motion Pro, parts can be bought separately for them. A lot of the cheap knock offs have no parts available, so instead of being able to buy a replacement pin your forced to buy a whole new tool...

So it really comes down to how much use you expect to get out of the tool.

And if you loan it out, they won't line up the pin properly and will bend it like spaghetti. Importation Thibault carries the Motion PRO pins as replacement parts.

I'll probably go the DID route if my Motion PRO ever fails me.

I wonder if this is ok. Im pretty sure the DID tool i got is for soft nose rivets. My chain came with a hard nose rivet. I used a breaker bar to tighten the rivet. It made a hole in it but im not sure it got flared out much. Hope it's enough.

It BARELY needs to be flared to hold the plate on. If you're in doubt grab the plate with some pliers and giver her a wiggle and see if it comes off easy.

Just make sure you didn't press the plate on too tight and squish the o-rings!

Did your pin come with a small hole in the middle to make flaring easier? Mine was just flat. It took a lot of force to even scratch the surface.

With the did tool you cant over press the plate.

There were holes in the rivets, it was pretty easy to flare them. I've never seen rivets that were flat on the end ;)
