Caterham Bikes Announced

Know what surprises me, F1 lives in the UK, cosworth, caterham and a poop ton of engineering firms produce some of the best products the world has experienced.

Then there is my experience, we had a David Brown tractor (crap) , my 1972 norton (crap) , my '73 MG (crap), my 2010 Rover (ultimate expression of crap).

I doubt you'll ever see one on the Parkway.

One of my business partners is also a Bajaj and Modenas importer in Jakarta and has been talking to Caterham. Apparently - IF they go ahead - the plant will be in Thailand and I can definitely see it as something that could be used in the rural areas of SE Asia IF they can keep the price down.

I believe the motor is also made in Asia

They are good at innovation, not so good at large scale manufacturing. England had a huge car and motorcycle industry, and it's mostly gone now, for very good reasons.

management by Aristocracy and the never ending union problems really didn't help the cause.
Combine that with trying to sell a product designed in a country where 500km puts you across the Country and sell it into a place where 500km won't get you out of the province or state. Longevity , not so much.

Caterham have been building the Super Seven (Lotus Seven Mark 3) since it bought the rights from Lotus in 1972. They will have a two rider Moto2 team next season. As well as building motorcycles, they will be launching new cars in the near future.

Unions don't initiate bad designs. It's also a country of very wet and humid weather, but they never perfected reliable electronics, or seemed to mate two surfaces together without oil leaking.

both Lotus and Caterham have been talking about new car plans....and both Lotus and Caterham have switched to the idea of new bikes instead. Neither company is financially stable right now.
