Wife called telling me she had the crap scred otout of her today when passing a truck that lost a tire. She said it was like a gun shot and showered the hood of the car. no damage, it would be havoc to a bike.

Those roads are hot out there, and retreads do't play nice with escessive heat.

be safe on you bike and give lots of room to trucks especially

Was thinking the same yesterday mentally trying to keep much more distance than normal from trucks and scanning for treads left on the road...

Are trucks allowed to have rethreads?

I think it's yes for Canada as well, were just talking about it with a friend the other day.

Here in the states the answer is yes, but cannot be on the front tires that control steering.

I believe here the only legal restriction is you can't use them on the front axle of buses. Retreaded tires are vastly more common than new tires (on trucks & buses), and they are generally pretty safe.

In Canada, you can only use retreads for drive tires, or trailer tires. Not on any position on buses or as a steer axle tire. In the states you can use retreads in all positions, but im not sure about the buses.

I don't think that's law though, just common practice. The only legal references I can find mention steering axles on "commercial passenger vehicles"/"motor coaches" and that's it.

lots of tire shrapnel all over the highway yeaterday and today. Was surprised even at the number of cars I saw sitting on the shoulder with blown tires.
