Correct me if I am wrong but I can go register my new bike into my name with no safety, I just can't get it plated correct?
I went to two MTO offices friday afternoon but both were lined up out the door and I didn't want to stand in line for an hour and a half for the lady to tell me I needed a safety..the website isn't very clear on this.

I'll have to go back with the safety to get the plates and sticker... Just making sure before I take time off work tomorrow morning. Thanks.

You can get it registered as UNFIT.

? and then once I have my safety and go back in they will reverse this?
If your current ownership says "fit" then when you switch it to your name they'll give you a new plate and 10 day permit (temporary sticker), you get it saftied then take the safety back to the MTO and they'll give you a real sticker. You'll need insurance before you get the 10 day.

Ah ok thanks guys. The broker I spoke to wouldn't give me temporary insurance, said it was too much of a risk and not worth it for him..I'm waiting until I turn 25 in march to get plate and insurance. It's going to be a looooong winter!

Is that your bike in the pic?
Is it a Repsol or a Replica? What year and make?

Is there any penalty for letting the temporary plate sticker expire? I just bought a bike, and insured, registered and plated it, but I won't be able to get a safety done on it before the temporary plate sticker expires (waiting on parts).

As long as you don't drive it there is no penalty if the sticker expires.
I believe you can get 2 per year or something along those lines.
So your bike is registered as UNFIT?

The only penalty is if you're pulled over for driving with an expired (past 10 days as mentioned above) sticker. The ministry wont charge you a penalty when you come back after the 10 day period. However the sticker is a giveaway to cops as it just displays a big red T instead of your birth month.

The document lists it as "plated - tmp". I probably didn't need to get the temp plate sticker ($15) since I wasn't really planning on riding it before the safety cert, but I got it just in case I needed to ride it around the block to make sure everything works.

If you didn't get the 10 day/sticker it would have been registered as unfit instead of tmp, then you wouldn't have been able to get a 10 day to take it to get it certified.

If you're not able to drive it and need to get it certified see if Ted at Rosey Toes still does house calls. There's also some people on Kijiji doing home visits.

No need for the house call, I've got a trailer
