Can a Yamaha FZ6R be made fast?

My 2009 FZ6R, is quick AF, 4 degree timing advance, full two brothers exhaust controlled with a commander 6 fuel air regulator (tuner) gears have been changed, there's a 13T front, and the rear has more teeth, cant remember the number at the moment, but let me be clear, im not claiming its the fastest 600 around, but what I am saying is this bike is quick, very quick with the mods thats been done, it has made it into a beast. People see it and think that thing ain't fast, its a nurtured R6 hahaha, then they see the handlebars are clip ons and the front is lowered. Ut-oh this thing might be fast, and it is.

Fast is a relative thing. When I was in my early 20's and had a Hawk GT that I home-tuned as far as I could go, it sure felt fast to me, even if it only made ~60hp on the dyno. When I had a ZX14 (~185hp), it also felt pretty fast, but the limits were harder to get to. One thing I know for 100% is the Hawk was a heck of a lot more fun.

What I'll always be grateful for when I was young and newish to bikes and messing around with that Hawk was I got onto the old CMG Soapbox, a forum full of old hands and a lot of wisdom, including lots of ex-racers and motorcycle journalists from back in the day when that meant something (and before YouTube). I was humble enough to know what they knew and what I wanted to know, and learned a huge amount from that crowd. Some of those folks are kicking around here, (though I haven't seen @TK4 in ages.)

It sounds like you're in a similar place around bikes as I was, so hopefully you can get the same out of some of the wisdom here as I did there. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of bad info you'll find here too (including, likely, from me), and the average age around here would make Methuselah blush, so you'll have to put up with a lot of crotchety and curmudgeonly grouchiness. But buried among the know-it-alls and know-it-somes is a lot of good info that'll help you be a better mechanic and rider if you listen. Way better info than you'll get off a Facebook group full of know-nothings, that's for sure...

(Oh, and gear. Not sure what you wear, but please make sure you wear proper gear if you like to go fast. Especially gloves. Never ride without them, no matter what. If I hadn't, I would be in much worse shape.)

I got an issue with the haters on the fz6r, its a 600cc, its been tuned down to be less powerful, this means it can be tuned up, and if it can be tuned up it can be made to be a threat to stock zx6 and r6, and any other 600 out there. Its a good bike, its fast asf now. And yeah, I wear proper race gear, I got road rash once when I was younger (49 now) and ill never forget that, lol, so I take the time to be as safe as I can. This isnt my first bike, I just upgraded i had a 76 GS500, it was fast, but nothing like this 600. This 600 is massive and super fast compared to the GS500. It use to only be quick through the first couple gears, but since I changed the sprockets and timing plate (4 degree advance) this thing will bark through out the RPM spectrum, be doing 75, down shift and dump it and man it doesn't take that long and just like that 110, 115, 120, 125 rolling, man I love it

Not really.

While the motors are similar, the differences are more than tuning. R6 has higher compression, higher compression forged pistons, race rods, different bore and stroke, race cams, race valve springs, race tuned exhaust, and dual fuel injectors. This and its tune give it 30% more hp, and a little less torque than an FZ6.

You can pull a few ponies out of a tune and exhaust, but you can’t get close to the 30% stock power advantage of an R6.

Glad you are enjoying your bike and mods. That is what matters.
Dude, you have no idea, im absolutely in love with this bike, I love Yamaha, my favorite bike is the R1, I gave a set of 18 inch chrome wheels for a car, for this bike and have been modifying it ever since. People say, what not just buy a faster bike, but see the problem with that is if I roll up on you riding a ZX6 you gonna know im fast, but if I pull up on you riding a FZ6R, you might laugh a little bit at first and say, get a real bike man lol, until you look closer and see its been modified. Some things I cant hide, like the exhaust, the handlebars and lowered front end, dude its a 600, it was tuned to be slower, now ive opened it up and its a threat to any other 600 out there, id love to smoke a ZX6 lol, i bet i can smoke a stock ZX6, im in the 502 if anyone wants to challenge me, I bet my modified FZ6R will smoke any stock ZX6. So needless to say, its quick and I love it!! Had to lower the front and put clip ons on it lol, had too, that was one of the first things I did. And that 4 degree timing advance was the single best mod I did. It now has power through all the RPMs, dump it and your going no matter what gear your in or RPM your at, swear by the 4 degree timing advance

No, but, i can change the sprockets, give it a timing advance, with the exhaust and tune and make it a threat. However, in the offseason I can rebuild my 40000 mile bike, and rebuild it with all those internals AND have the block bored. The point of this build is to appear to be a FZ6R, but preform like an R6. Sleeper.....

Aren't the engines close enough that you can drop in an R6 engine? That's the normal path for siblings where one is dialed back.

I think by the time they got to the R (as opposed to the original FZ6), the motor had been changed significantly over multiple generations. I'd be very surprised if a swap was plug and play, likely requires major modifications to make it work. It's probably a lot cheaper/easier to buy an R6 and put high bars and an FZ6R fairing on it.

The easiest way is to jack up the gas cap and slip an R1 under it. The OP comes across like the classic " squid ". Wanna` impress people, put your stock exhaust back on, fit suitable tires and take something like the VRRA race school. I can`t condone "racing" on the street, the only people you`ll eventually impress are the cop, the judge and just maybe, the coroner. If he chooses to listen, just a few words of advice from a much older rider who`s been there and somehow luckily avoided severe consequence. Think about it man.(y)
