Calabogie roads

I know it's been said before but it bears repeating. The roads around Calabogie are pretty awesome. I did a little loop yesterday from highway 417 to the 17 down to Calabogie through the village and out the other side on the 511 towards Lanark...turned North to head to Almonte on the 29 then caught back up with the 417 to head home.

Great roads... 511 is very very good indeed and the road down to Calabogie which follows the Madawaska river for a while is pretty nice too.

Good stops in Calabogie too...try the $5.99 ribs at Shooters Bar and Grill....makes a great snack.

Yeah that area is pretty nice. And while you're up there, the roads around Barry's Bay are pretty sweet too.

Noted. Thanks. Next week I think I'll follow the Ottawa River upstream a ways. Tons of nice places to ride around here. I found some nice roads on the Quebec side too but unfortunately even though some have nice surfaces they don't last too long and I'm back to potholes after a while. I think it was the 366 that runs East-West across the top of Wakefield that was a really nice road...that's on next week's list too. In fact I think I can combine the two if I do a big loop and cross out of Quebec on the south west side down by Renfrew.

If you are going as far up as 117 there is a freshly perfectly paved road - 90 miles or so into Rouyn Noranda - it parallels 101.

391 - one detour with a bit of gravel then bliss.

Good break spot in Rouyn is the Al VanHoutte coffee bar. Wireless, excellent coffee and pastries.

The James Bay trip was an eye opener for the North of North Bay in Que and Ontario.
Gonna do more for sure including the Ottawa Valley - 533 - Matawa area.

Not quite reached that far yet. I got up to Maniwaki, QC on the 105 north today. That road is very enjoyable for quite a ways up to Maniwaki. Maniwaki is OK, it's a one strip bar town.

Side note..went through the most bizarrely named town on the way, Kazabazua.

I think next time I'll ride through Maniwaki, and then head to the 117 east and take that through Mont Laurier, Riviere Rouge and a small detour to Mont Tremblent then take some roads south west back to Ottawa. I really like the mountain roads around there.

Shhh
