Buying a used bike? Check your dealer or manufactures website.

People are obviously paying what they are selling for. Otherwise everyone would be dropping their price to actually sell the machine. Not sure how one could actually fix it, unless everyone stopped buying used till prices were forced to drop. People want bikes, complain they are to expensive, and then because there is no real recourse other then endless hunting or going down to the states, they buy for the prices they are going for now.

they are not selling for the asking price in most cases......I see the same bikes for sale for months with many price drops before they sell. The ones that sell quick are a thousand or two less than the others.

If the bike is relatively new (like less than a year old and/or less than 1000 KMs), I don't see any harm in trying to recoup some of the tax and PDI costs.

good luck. PDI and freight are negotiable with the dealer, especially on left over models. Some dealers don't even charge for it. Unfortunately PDI and freight are the costs to get the bike to you from Italy, or Japan........the price of buying new and is between you and the dealer. The used buyer only cares about the cost for uvip and safety.

Lets not forget the finance rates as well. If the dealer has lets say 1.9% finance (no fees etc) and the banks going to soak you for 6 or 8% (?) on a private sale loan, you're automatically in the hole at the end of your loans term. It's all in the math. Plus if a new one breaks, it's got a warranty.
It seems a lot easier to get a loan from a manufacture than a bank as well.

I just said it couldn't hurt to try as a seller. The buyer doesn't have to agree to it.

You can ask a million dollars if you want, but like I said the problem seems to be that people are using what you and others are "asking". I'm not mad at anybody, it's just very disheartening when you look at page after page of bikes that are IMO overpriced. Most are not selling. I just don't get it. Usually when I put something up for sale, it's because I want to sell it, not because I want to keep it. My favourite quote from sellers is "well that's what they're selling for". So I'll reply, "NO, that's what they're asking". At that point I'm labelled as a cheap sob. I've got a few emails lately, asking if I'm still interested. Well summers over and the price I offered 4 or 5 months ago is no longer on the table. Too many games. lol

From the seller's viewpoint, there come s a time when it is easier and low cost to hang onto a bike rather than sell it. If one bike is good, two is better - a reserve in case of repairs, or a bike to leave at a cottage. In my case, I decided to sell the CBR125R, but since it costs be $48 for a license, and $65 for insurance a year, I am in no financial hardship hanging onto it. So unless I can get what I perceive as reasonably, I can continue to be a nice guy by lending it to family members (who lend me their high perforamce boats, so fair is fair).

Rant...
Ok being 1st time I put a motorcycle I bought brand new up for sale I can say a few things. Many here are right e.g sentimental value & wanting to factor costs of maintenance& washing in.
I overpriced my bike @ 1st; Partly because I'd be happy keeping it (if not for wanting a cruiser or track bike) & partly
To see if someone would overpay :).
Now I lowered it to a very realistic price (my opinion) considering it's excellent condition. I received more offers at my high price than I have now LOL.
It seems buyers get so outraged by an unfair price they take a lot of effort to let you know or think you'll give it to them for half price because of their email address. Since I lowered the price I've received only 2 offers.
One from an overseas buyer that requires me to get a tattoo Reading "sucker". The other offer from an aspiring rider with no Moto License whom felt I necessary to brag about his dangerous driving and compare it to riding.

The thing I don't get looking at the used market is why do people mod bikes with such common mods? Why do modded bikes sell? I mean by changing an exhaust and not remapping ECU the engine is harmed by running rich/lean?
I mean common people modded bikes with Timies KMS tell you something.
