Buying a bike from a private seller, what do I need?

Hi guys...so I ended up deciding to purchase from a private seller. Would like your help on what exactly I need to do to put the bike under my name and what I should get from the seller? I know I should check for lien (how do I check that information?) do we both go to Ministry of Transportation to transfer the bike under my name? does the bike have to be certified in order for me to ride it? taxes? etc...

Thanks as always. :-)

Give the seller money. The seller will give you signed ownership, receipt, UVIP, bike, and key's. Take your signed ownership, UVIP, certificate of safety with proof of insurance to the Ministry. To ride it you must certify it. Pay your taxes.

The seller should provide the UVIP to you. Trailer it to the safety shop, or call Ted at Rosey Toes (416)2412523 and ask him to do it at your place.

Excellent... just finished reading up... so it appears that the uvip takes 5 business days to arrive electronically... if we go in person, can this be retrieved the same day? Also how much for the UVIP?

Thanks

you can get the uvip the same day if you go to any service ontario location or select kiosks. Line up at the service ontario locations can be long but you will get the uvip before u leave. its $20.
