Buell Blast worthy of riding or as a crushed cube?

I recently came across a Buell Blast, not sure why I like it, maybe its the golfball coating? But it's seems everyone has something bad to say about it. Anything good to say or is it really a piece of junk?

I'd ride it if someone gave it to me for free. Wouldn't pay a penny for one though. Also, when it breaks, just throw it away.

How the hell could someone want or support a bike, when the company itself found it fit to just destroy the last few remaining specimens??

I think the whole cube thing was borne out of Buell's possible annoyance of having his name on the thing. They actually didn't stop making it right away, I think production continued for a while for Harley's own training program or something (the bikes were unbranded, though).

When it was current, it was slammed mostly because it was a terrible value - the Blast was not the cheapest bike out there when it was new. Somewhere between $5-6K, for a bike that was functionally equivalent to a CBR125. It doesn't have the most elegantly designed motor out there (half a Sportster), and ... I dunno. There were just better motorcycles for the same money.

Actually this makes complete sense, now I have a feeling that he did this on purpose.

Im guessing resale value on this is zilch or nada.

From what I've read about the Blast, they were not well manufactured and have a lot of reliability issues and there are a lot better choices out there. They were built as cheap 'entry' level bikes to get people into the Harley Brand and for HD to use as training bikes. They did have some unique design features (as did all Buells).

My brother had one for two years and it was a heap of ******. It had constant problems starting, was leaking oil from the engine [I think it was the bottom cylinder gasket? could be wrong], it shook like a motherf***er while at a stop, it would literally shake trim parts off, replacement parts were hard to find cheap, the oil was held in the frame [stupid idea] it was heavy and slooowwww. The front brakes weren't too bad though, they were better than my cbr125.

He let me ride it when I first got licensed, then the drive belt broke and he said 'F this noise' and bought an SV650. Ended up selling the Blast to someone who had like three of them and liked them for some reason.

I got one cheap from a guy at work who bought a ducati and wanted to dump it. When he first mentioned it too me I told him I wasn't interested, and every time he mentioned it, the price kept dropping until I couldn't say no.

My wife was learning to ride, and thought my 750 was too big for her, so I figured what the hell. It was actually a great bike for her to learn on, light enough for her to pick up after a spill, but fast enough for her to enjoy riding once she got her m2.

Honestly, it's not so bad - I wouldn't pay much for one, but I find anything with two wheels and an engine fun to play with.

16 inch wheels. 1/2 Sportster motor. Who comes up with these things? I'd love to sit in on that design meeting.

i rode one and it sucks, you change gears and it sound like you are breaking something , the while bike jolts and also the gear ratios are messed up hard to explain, i would not recommend it

Had one for a couple of years and never had any issues except eating rear tires because of the torquey motor gearing. It did not leak any oil! Clunky gear shifting but that is just the Sporty box. Sound wise, just change the exhaust. Cheap enough then buy it, enjoy it and then move it on. Always will be HD haters on this board.

If I could find one in mint condition for under $1000, I would buy it... A friend owns one, and while it's quirky, it works well, leaks no oil, and sounds like a broken Singer.
