Im so stoked right now! Picked up a 2010 Ninja 250 Special Edition tonight. Its got 2k on it, looked even better in person.
Never been on bikes before except a dirt bike about 2 times. Feels really heavy. Not sure if I should wait till i complete my msf course before
I attempt to ride it with instructions from a friend.
I feel like sleeping in the garage haha. Its beautiful. Only complaints so far, blinker lights are weird and flimsy. Dont look good. Fender eliminator ASAP. Needs exhaust its very quiet.

If you haven't ridden before, go do your course first. Just my reco but it's your bike so you can do whatever you want.

Good luck, ride safe!

Congrats!

I remember that feeling, cold as ****, late at night, and im driving around a parking lot with no plates and no insurance on salty and dirty pavement hahaha
good times :)

I say jump on it and learn the clutch control while you are at it..... but......... watch some videos to see how its done! then wait for the course!

Congrats!! Nice looking bike and low KMS, awesome!

I'd say wait for your course, you'll learn faster and better in a controlled environment with instructors.

ATGATT and see you on the road :)

Thanks for the input folks. Whats the best way to get over the "feeling heavy" will it come with time and practice ? Id like to practice if I can on it. Pretty nervous about it

Know thyself. I'll assume you've thought about this a great deal, watched videos, read magazines and talked to riding buddies. You should have a pretty good idea what's involved. Are you a fully functioning normal human being with all the normal arm, finger and leg moving skillz? It's only a motorcycle and a 250 at that.
Don't buy into the self agrandizing notion you need fighter pilot DNA to make it in this hobby. Go play in a parking lot previous to official instruction. Dare you, no, double dare you! Also, bring camera.

PS, oh carp, heavy feeling and pretty nervous?? I didn't see that. Please ignore the above "people are awesome" post. Have a nice day.

Feeling heavy while idling or moving? You wont feel the weight of the bike at all when moving, and you'll get used to the weight while corning as well.

Congrats holmes, I know the feeling! When you planning on getting plates? Got insurance on it? How much?

Congrats. It's a fun little bike. I would do the course first and then play with it. I still have my 250 even though I have monster, it's that fun in the twisties

congrats on the bike, great colour design. when is your course? if you're too nervous about riding it then wait to practice on the course bikes (just in case you drop it), otherwise, practice clutch control to get the feeling of when the bike engages and throttle control to get the feeling of how much you need to twist the wrist to get the desired rpm you want.

Else, read whatever you can get your hands on related to bikes and watch instructional videos such as twist of the wrist (link posted on this site somewhere).

have fun.

Might go get some temps to practice in my survey. Insurance is 140$/month for me. Im 24 with 1 ticket.
Sushi - it feels heavy at idle. My course is at the end of June with CMA. Not sure if I can hold out that long lol

do the course and learn proper riding technique....

leave the bike as is for now, get used to it, then mod the crap out of it if you wish....

the only thing you can add to it right now, is some frame sliders, you are new, you seem nervous, you might drop it, those will at least protect the bike from some major damage....won't do anything for your ego, but will save your wallet from deflating quickly....

have fun and enjoy the wonderful world of 2 wheels....

Can you ride a bicycle. The two are very much the same. The slower you go the harder it is to balance. Once you reach about 25km/h push steering is the only way to steer. Get on a bicycle and find a hill once you are moving at 20km or so gently push on the left handle bar bike will go left. Then push on right bike will go right. This goes for all bikes motor or not. It is the most important thing to learn first.

Just practice getting on and off the bike, kick stand up.... kick stand down, move the bike around, you'll get used to it. Some of the first exercises on my MS course was getting used to moving the bike around and getting a feel for the bike. Eventually your mind and body will realize that with a little balance the bike actually feels kind of light. I was a bit nervous about the weight of bikes before I started my course, by the end of if I had no concerns left. Those we smaller bikes too at the course, your bike and you next one will only get heavier but you won't notice it much. My new new ZX6r is heavier than the 250 but it feels no different when I am balancing it.
