Boot Dilemma

I have lots of miles on the 2012 SMX-Plus. I recommend them highly and mine don't squeak. I prefer them over the Sidi's.

Really? I heard that they got rid of the squeak for 2011+ good to know that the issue is still there. That might effect my purchase decision

Ya, the new SMX plus are squeakers still. Many posts on the net about that. Revzilla reviews note it as well.

One can see how rare the Sidi STs are compared to the SMX plus. :) I really like having something different. The rarity is not surprising given the limited distributors. One GTA store told me SIDI got rid of the Canadian distributor and it all comes out of the US distributor now, and prices are higher too. They try to order in some bulk otherwise shipping costs add to the price.

Having owned older SMX plus boots and older SIDI race vertebras I found the SIDIs were definitely able to take much much more punishment over the long term. I put them through a lot on the track and racing. They were awesome.

Yeah of I do get the SMX plus I'll be getting the newer model without the squeak

That's interesting, I just looked at the pictures of the current boot and can see how they've tried to fix it. Have you seen reviews that say that it's actually stopped the squeaking completely? I may try to replace mine at some point then...

I have the Alpinestars and have no complaints. One thing to note is just like a helmet everyone fits different so go see what fits best. I wear a 10.5/11 shoe and my Alpinestars are size 9.

I was going by the review videos from Revzilla/STG, as well as some forum reviews from when the boot launched. I suppose I should have taken a look at more of the user reviews of the product, but that was my bad :p

I'm going to try and find a video of the squeak to see how loud it is, as long as it isn't super loud I don't think it should be a concern

Get gortex unless you only ride in the dry or you want to get 2 different pairs of boots. Best purchase I made was dropping a ton of cash on gortex boots (BMW allround). Worn them every day for the past three seasons from spring to the start of winter every year with no problems wet or dry, warm weather or cold.
