Boot Dilemma

So this coming season I'll be getting some full length boots, and I've narrowed down my choices to Aplinestars SMX Plus in red, or the Sidi ST in red. The A* I would be grabbing from either Sturgess or the motorcycle show depending on if there's a killer deal to be had. The Sidi's would be a little bit more of a hassle to get, I'd be ordering them from Revzilla and picking them up in NF, NY then riding back wearing them. Both would come to roughly 375. Does anyone here ride with either of these, or tried either out? Pros and Cons?

All I can tell you is that my girl has a pair of Sidi Vertigos and they're not the best for ankle protection. For the same money, don't count out the Dainese Torques.

Both will be adequate for posing :)

nexo boots are crap....just wear some cons instead...

if you have $400 to blow, the dainese torques are sweet.

Out of those two choice I would get the A*Star. Forget the SIDIs.

As other have said, for the money I'd be getting Dainese Torques. Got 50k on mine including getting my ankle run over and they're still going strong. They are also god damn comfy, something that SIDIs arent.

I got the Sidi ST's to my door for under $400 around new years. It's a very nice boot. Stiff. I prefer the added protection they offer over the alpinestar SMX plus. I really like the new entry system. Quick yet easy and secure.

The SMX plus is a softer boot in my experience (than the ST). Both great options. Revzilla has the SMX plus on closeout now. Closeout!???

:) I saw a great price at Bayside around the holidays. http://www.baysideperformance.ca/

They aren't as cheap lately, but watch some of the main internet Canada and US stores as there are short term pricing changes from time to time (especially with the Canadian stores).

FYI I'd say to try the Dainese boots on if you can. I was going to buy a pair of either TRQ Race or Torque Pros and tried them on at GP, only to find they fit too narrow for me (pinches my ankles badly).

Likely going with Supertech Rs myself since the SMX+ fit like a glove in comparison (don't like the zipper design on them though, and figure the added protection of the Supertechs is well worth the added money).

Anyhow just my 2 cents.

Is $349 (tax in) for Dainese Torque a good price? Or should I hold off to the march show?

If you know they fit you properly, check out the actual DStore (Dainese online web store) -- When I was looking at them it was cheaper to get them direct from Italy than it was from most local vendors. If I recall shipping was either $40 or $50, but from my understanding there are no brokerage fees or taxes on pickup.

I ride in A* SMX Plus. I tried on Sidi's last year, I don't know if they were the STs (was probably a cheaper model), but it was a world of difference, the A* were ahead by far. I found the Sidi had a much narrower sole that made them feel unstable when walking (like you were in heels or something), and they were just nowhere near as comfortable. The SMX Plus have this inner bootie that make them feel super snug, and super comfy. I rode with them on the hottest days last season and never found them to get uncomfortably warm.

Only thing with the SMX Plus is when you try them on, they don't make any noise. Within a day or two of wearing them, they break in a bit and parts of the plastic protection rub against eachother and they make this ungodly squeaking noise that gets tons of stares. I hear it can be solved with graphite lube, but I never tried. WD-40 works for a day before it wears off. (Yes I realize WD-40 isn't lube, but people said it worked for the squeaking for them)

Another vote for SMX Plus. Comfy, supportive, squeaky. If buying on closeout, just make sure you're getting the later (2011+) version with the Multi Link Control external stabilizer on the ankle.

Yeah of I do get the SMX plus I'll be getting the newer model without the squeak
