Bike stollen from condos mostly

I am curious but it seems the mentality is still prevalent on this forum that " If I live in a condo my bike will not get stolen" or " I live in a special more upscale condo so those things don't happen here".

Perhaps people should change their mindset. I live in a condo in the GTA therefore it is likely that my motorcycle will be stolen. It's not a matter of IF it is a matter of WHEN.

Yes, it sucks but what are you going to do about. Have your insurance paid up which includes theft and vandalism.
Either you just install some kinda anchoring system and fight with your building until they remove it or better yet get a Police type letter stating that motorcycle owners in condos need to implore greater security to protect their property. Take that to your condo boards. It's just an idea instead of doing nothing and to keep telling us your bikes are stolen from your condo.

If you live in a condo, there are bound to be scummy renters / drug dealers / criminals in there. It doesn't matter if strata prohibits rentals, it will still happen. I don't see how this is a surprise to anyone not living under a rock.

I don't think anyone has the mindset of condo = safe...

Yea.... if I was in any condo other than mine, I'd be worried. But for me, I have a good set up.

For starters, my bike is comparatively worthless and you'd have to be an idiot to risk anything stealing it. Secondly, getting to my spot is like the movie "The Descent." It's 4 levels down in the most narrow, hard to navigate, most ill-designed parking garage ever. It's hard enough to get a car down there. Two cars passing each other is a nightmare. Couldn't imagine getting a van down there... don't think it's possible. And lastly, you need a remote to get in AND out of the place.

I sleep relatively easy. Having said all of this, though, I bet my bike gets stolen tonight

good point, people are in denial, just take a look at the last 10 threads here where someones bike got jacked, every single one has "I never thought I'd be posting this" or "i never though this could happen to me" in it

That goes for everything. A lot of people have been raised in a cocoon and think nothing will ever happen to them because mommy told them they were special. They don't think they will ever be assaulted, scammed, fired, cheated, robbed or run down by a car when they walk out into the street texting. Have a coffee folks, strong and black.

$80 a night you can hire this dude.

I had mines stolen too ( lock and alarm, AND in broad daylight ). If they want it it's there's. There no real theft protection outside of insurance.

These threads could be a good lesson and reminder to new bike owners that live in condos that refuse to listen.

A better idea is bikes that have little use to thiefs. Eventually they run out of options

what do you mean?

so any suggestions on where you would park your bike if you live in a condo? self storage lockers the best bet?

Given the bike theft trend that is ever increasing and "seemingly" doubling every year it sounds like you have a good solution.
Find another rider you trust and share the cost of a self storage facility.

I often wonder how many people that live in condos use a bike cover with a quick draw cord to snug it tight so it makes it very hard for someone to lift it up and have a peek. Explore some other options i.e. parking your bike between the posts that would also allow for your neighbors to park their cars therefore blocking your bike in most of the times by having your car on one side and theirs on the other.
Perhaps see if you can swap parking spots with someone that would better protect your bike.

sounds like a lot of work, plus "thats what insurance is for" and "if they want it they'll take it"
