Bike parking options where the residential building has no underground spots.

I am just about ready to put down money on my first bike, but I am still trying to sort out what to do for parking. I live in a building that has no underground or covered parking spots. It's just an open lot in the back of the building.

Anyone here in the same situation? Where do you park your bike?

I was thinking of gong round the street and seeing if any of the people would rent space in their garage, but it seems kind of sketch to just go out asking for something like that. The only other option I see is getting a spot in my buildings open air parking lot near something that I can bolt the bike to with a chain and using a rain cover.

Anyone have any further ideas or tips?

I had the same thing where I lived before, I rented 5'x10' unit at the nearest storage place with 24 hour access for $80/month and could leave my car also when I went for rides. If you want to gamble with leaving your bike out in the open expect to have it stolen, this forum is full of underground parking thefts stories and outside is even easier then that.

What type of bike? If its a later ss...I would rent a locker. Anything else...park it behind ur car..maybe with a disc lock with alarm.

Or ask these guys if they ship to Canada: http://www.cycleshell.com/

Don't forget theft insurance.

I park it out back with a cover just like my neighbors do and keep my theft insurance up to date. I've been known to leave it in Green P lots with the keys in it overnight, too.

Just put an HD cover on it and no one will pay attention to it :D
