Beginner bike?

My GF is getting her M2 this month and she is 5'3". My Mana is a bit too much bike for her and seating position is too high. Looking at a CBR 125 given they average 2K but my only hesitation is how quick she will outgrow her ride. Better to bite the bullet and invest in a 250 or 500 now or could a 125 last her for 3 years?

Cannot get anywhere without some decent highway riding so 400 series highways will be in the imminent future.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I was at the dealership yesterday picking up a few things and I have to say now that I've seen it in person, the new cbr 500 is pretty nice. It's definitely bigger than the 250 physically but not by a lot. Felt light enough and comfortable sitting on it. It is by far I think the best looking under 600 sport bike I've ever seen. If size is an issue I would say you'd want to shy away from the 125 for sure. Maybe take her to the dealer and check out what they have and what she finds comfortable.

I work with a guy who rides the 401 constantly on a 2007 CBR125. He has no wish to get a different bike after 2 years now. It goes fairly well.

I had the CBR250, at times I felt it lacked power after 120km, but it has enough in it to pass a car safely. I could have kept the bike and still enjoyed it, I didn't like the fact it was a single cylinder and sounded like a lawn mower that's about to explode.

I would go with a 250 as it will be light, easy to handle and good size for the smaller person. I ride a 250 now as it's my first season and it does the job very well for me! My gf has since gotten really excited about it and now wants to ride too! So she will be getting my 250 next year when i upgrade! She is about 5'2'' and can easily fit on the bike.

I was fine with a cbr 125 on the highway (6'1", lightweight 160 lbs), and am only on a ninja 250 now because it was given to me. The 250 is a bit more comfortable and can go quite a bit faster, but the 125 was fine going steady at 110-120kph. Gotta remember that the speed limit is only 100kph and most cars go around or (sadly) under that anyways.

most cars are under 100kph ? wow which part of the 401 are u driving on?
almost all on the 404 and the 401 are about 120kph lol

you must be on there when everyone is at work or sunday when the grandmas are out for some tea lol

My vote is Ninja 300 :)

401, usually anywhere between 400 and morningside at no specific time. If you stay in the inside collectors and actually pay attention to the cars you are passing, yeah most people drive at or under 100. Yes, some people do stick to 120+ (the smarter ones imo, since it is a HIGHWAY) and actually get the flow of traffic moving, but most unfortunately don't. Try riding the highway at 100 some time and see how many cars you pass as opposed to how many are passing you. Especially on Sunday when all the grandmas are out for tea.

125 are fun on the highway.. You will be in 5th gear often and hitting the limiter...

I've ridden a CBR125 on the highway. It's fine until you have to pass. Other than that, it was a super fun bike.

A 125 is awesome for starting but I honestly do not recommend it on highways, I wasn't able to pass anything with it. Kinda maxes out at about 125~ but for city its BRILLIANT lol. I will miss it for sure.

depends if u want used...250 ninjas or cbr's....if u go new ,I recommend ninja 300. Totally different bike from the 250.

Wow like the look of this cbr! I just started riding last summer and got a 500 ninja 03 ( 2500 on kijiji) love it.... But CBR 500 is HOT ;) To op I think your gf will get to bored with a 250 the 500"s are GREAT started bikes and easy on ins.. I will ride one more season with my 500 to get more experience then hope to move up next year. Ride safe ;)

Its not the top speed of the CBR125 thats a problem, its the acceleration in the 60+ speeds...you loose one great thing about bikes, the ability to ACCELERATE away from a potential problem.
