guys,
I just started watching motogp...I like it...very cool indeed!

i ave a few bugging questions tht migt sound pretty basic...

1. are the bikes in GP class 600CC?
2. if they are then how's ducati competing? Last time I cecked they only make production bikes north of 800cc...
3. why is there no kawasaki?

Moto3 is 250. Moto2 are 600. Motogp are 1000cc.

Ducati have not been doing great but they are major players. Keep in mind that motogp bikes are all custom prototype machines, they bear little resemblance to their road bikes.

I've heard suzuki are coming next year, unsure why kawi chooses not to participate, but I think they focus more on world super bike which are a little closer to road going machines.

Kawasaki and Suzuki were both in MotoGP a few years ago but performed extremely poorly so they backed out. That dropped the field significantly (less than 15 riders) so Dorna and FIM introduced the CRT (Claiming Rule Team) bikes. These were non-factory sponsored bikes which were a bit cheaper to get onto the track, but also not able to perform nearly as well. This is why they introduced a fourth bike in the winners box at the end of the race - this was the top performing CRT bike. The introduction of this class of bike opened up the field back up to about 23-25 riders. This year, it seems that the CRT bikes are now an open class, which Ducati is also part of. Ducati gave up their factory class to try to become more competitive. There are tighter restrictions on factory bikes - less fuel, fewer engines, etc. - vs. the open class. As a result, Ducati has been doing a lot better.

As for Suzuki, they are actively testing for return in 2015. I don't think Kawasaki is planning a similar return.

Kawi used to be in GP but they were not competitive. The money required to compete is astronomical and Kawi would rather focus on WSBK where they currently hold the title.

The races are truly amazing. Marquez has been unbelievable to watch

Kawasaki IS STILL in MotoGP, kind of…. After they withdrew the full factory team they did/do offer limited factory support to the Avinta & Hayate teams.
Suzuki will be back next year. They have developed a bike and are testing it now.
Both Kawasaki and Suzuki were about as competitive as Ducati is now/has been since Casey Stoner left. Both teams left during/after the financial crisis because they were burning through money are rarely found themselves on the podium.
