Armored Shorts... Anyone using them under their gear? Recommendations?

im interested in some shorts as well since im skinny and my riding pants don't have much hip protection, just the foam.

I didn't even know there was such thing.

I was looking at buying bicycle shorts for the padding because when I spend 5-6 hours on the bike, my a** hurts. My leather pants are padded but I don't always feel looking like a mutant but overall these could be a better option.

I have the Knox Cross Shorts for under my one piece. Dont even notice them there. Not the best ones out there but I feel confident the would do what they are intended for. Sizing is completely out to lunch though as I have a small and according to there chart should be a large.

I have these too. Definitely makes you feel more confident but I do notice them there while wearing baggy cargo pants.
I do however like that there is coccyx padding.

I use the Alpinestars Compression shorts whenever I think the ride would be more spirited e.g long highway runs. They fit easily under my Draggin jeans. Comfortable enough to wear all day. They don't buldge out too much under the jeans. Although they are not CE certified snd probably dont offer as much protection as the Knox for example.

Some have gel padding which would help with your longer rides. I have a co-worker with a GSXR-750 and he wears something for that very reason. I will ask him what he is using.

The Icon ones have decent hip protection but nothing for your coccyx/tailbone. They are made with a material though that is resistant to coming apart. Something akin to kevlar. So with the icon ones you have some hip protection (CE rated) plus some extra protection against road rash should your overpants fail. e an

So, I have an idea that the Icon ones would work well. However, some kind of protection for my quads and/or tail bone would be nice. What I like about the Icon ones is that they are very subtle. The Klim ones seem well built.

I have Knox Cross Shorts too. Have not worn them yet this year though I need to get back in the habit now that I am starting to get more adventurous on my new bike. Only reason I have not worn them is that I have a surgical scar right where one of the hip protector sits when I am riding. Was too uncomfortable to put them on though I guess it is time for me to try again.

I ordered up the Icon ones.

I will post a review of them once I have used them on a few rides. I like the idea of the CE hip armour plus the increased abrasion resistance they will provide.

I use the Dainese mesh shorts w/ armor and shin/knee armor under jeans for any ride that will invokve anything more than a jaunt to work or the corner store...

Very comfy and unlike compression shorts it provides great ventilation

Picked up a pair of the Knox Cross shorts. Well made, good product. They do fit large though.

Went to GP bikes and Royal Distributing and they don't seem to carry any.

Anybody seen these in the GTA?

And as it was on my way (although I didn't I found find any here) also went to Cycleworld Superstore without success

Armoured shorts do not seem to be something that is stocked. I never did find any in the stores around Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph. Mine should be in so I will pick them up on Monday. I will post some pics and impressions of the Icon ones. I commute on my bike a fair bit so a second pair of shorts would be a good idea. I might try a different brand for the second pair (Dainese or Klim) and then I will be able to compare a couple of different brands.

I ordered up from Tyler at Two Sports in Guelph and got a great deal on the Icon Stryker ones.
