Ardoch Spring

I like a destination ride so today I went out to look for Ardoch Spring which is a natural spring just off Ardoch Rd on River Rd. Ardoch Rd is just off the 509 north of Highway 7.

Found it. As you turn into River Rd it's literally 20 seconds further down the road next to a large clearing on the right with a lot of ads posted on the trees.

As I pulled in a local turned up and filled a ton of jugs of the water. She said it wasn't tested but everyone drinks it. She also appeared to have the right number of heads and ears and stuff so it may well be fine. It tasted great and was very cold. Fabulous on a hot day.

Had a great ride down Ardoch Rd west to the 506 through Myers Cave which sadly has no cave at all and then to highway 41.

Took 41 south and turned off to Tamworth and then took Mountain Rd all the way to Parham on highway 38.

Mountain Rd is fantastic but someone went bonkers with the tar snakes just at the Parham end.

I had the 506 and Ardoch Rd to myself. It was a great day but hot.

Of note, the dark skies reserve on Highway 41 just south of the sheffield conservation area has bathrooms.

I think Mountain/ Wagerville rd crosses 3 different municipalities. They all have very different road strategies. I had a pucker moment last week on the tar snakes as well!

Sounds about right. Everything is fine until you approach the Parham end and it’s only crappy because they ran the snakes so close together it’s a band of slippyness rather than spaced ribbons.

Years ago on a portage trip in Temagami I pulled out of a big lake to follow a tiny feeder stream to get to a smaller lake.Stopped to take a drink of the crystal clear stream water, and then a couple minutes later came across the maggot filled carcass of a deer laying in the stream.Never again!

Looks like a good run!

There is a spring near Lakeridge ski resort. Lots of people always filling up. I've pitstopped a couple of times as well.

I’ve scooped up water from a stream before when I was younger. Wouldn’t do it now.

The Ardoch Spring is a proper artesian spring though. The water is untested formally but locals have tested it themselves with water kits apparently. Use at your own risk though.

Also one in Millbrook and in Harwood. I've used both.

There is a tested spring in Perth too. Not as scenic in terms of location, I think it’s right downtown. Never used the spring but Perth is a nice place to visit so I’ll head up that way soon and report back.

Ah June in S Ontario ...I do miss the long days and usually mild weather tho the 30 degree days were increasing when I left for good. No real seasons here ...just The Wet and The Dry with maybe at most an hour difference in daylight. Enjoy your variety.
