An “extremely dangerous” thunderstorm hit Toronto and brought heavy rain, hail, and destructive winds, causing widespread flooding, power outages, and downed trees.

Got lucky here in central Ontario...about 3 hours of T-storms.. heavy rain, lots of lightning 5 to 8am or so. Rest of the day was threatening but nothing, sun came out about 5:30pm.
Fix how? Some are underpasses, some parts of dvp and train tracks end up in the river when flow is high enough. Environmental regulations block most solutions. Cost blocks the rest. Cheaper to close sections for a couple days a year.
All good around Port Credit. The storm warnings on my phone were annoying while watching some movies but the rain didn't sound that bad. Then my daughter in Toronto asked if our basement was flooded and sent pics. I was shocked. Checked the news and the only reported flooding anywhere close was the Southdown Rd railway underpass. Phew!

Lots of underpasses in Mississauga for the Lakeshore railway. People should know better than to try driving underwater and take a detour that goes over a railway instead of under.
Mississauga's solution since the big 2012 storm that caused widespread flooding in my neighborhood was to retrofit the storm drain system for higher capacity. Definitely seems to be helping, but not sure if they're still designing around the probability of a "100-year storm", which sadly now seems to be happening more like every few years.

That`s the thing. Got millions of people living in giant concrete and asphalt canyons and valleys, get storms like yesterday and there`s gonna` be problems. Like you say, the cost is the bottom line.
Markham got a good rain, that’s all. I did have to pump a few inches outa the pool, it filled to the brim so I’m guessing we got 130-140mm of rain, but no flooding.
The creek in my back yard was raging, it rose up about a meter, highest I’ve seen it in the summer.
Take a minute and find and clear any drains, sounds like your car may have one that is clogged and if left unattended to it can lead to serious electronic and mould issues with the car.

wokeup to a flat passenger rear tire, guess the storm got me afterall! Good thing they were on their last legs anyways and i picked up replacements last week.
