as a hybrid driver you are held to the points penalties that affect novice drivers.

Effective August 1, 2010, novice or hybrid drivers (drivers that hold a novice licence and full licence, e.g., G/M2) will be subject to Novice Driver Escalating Sanctions.

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/demerit.shtml

As a Class G1, G2, M1 or M2 driver, if you get two or more demerit points, you will be sent a warning letter.

At six points, you may have to go to an interview to discuss your record and give reasons why your licence should not be suspended. If you don't attend, your licence may be suspended.

At nine points, your licence will be suspended for 60 days from the date you surrender it to the Ministry of Transportation. You can lose your licence for up to two years if you fail to surrender your licence.

what this means is a couple tickets that would would normally just get you a warning with a full licence would get you suspended with a hybrid licence.

don't dally, don't delay.

Oh crap, i had no idea about this. Good thing i got my M this year. Problem solved!

thank good I already completed the full license.

This would apply if I had a G1M or G2M?

your licence is hybrid, so the answer is yes.

you could have an ACZM2 and have been driving for 20 years and as long as you've got #s in your licence endorsements you're hybrid and have to watch for the novice points. two speeding tickets in 2 years would put you into the interview range where you have to beg to keep your licence. a third ticket in those two years has you suspended. If you were going fast enough to get a 4 point ticket your licence your licence will be suspended
are convicted of HTA offences that result in 4 or more demerit points
It's not just speeding that will get you, though it is the most likely, here is a list of 4+ point offences

you would likely see following too closely if you rear ended some one, but the cops would charge you with careless and you would plead down to following and still lose you licence.

Lol, I currently have 9 points with my GM2 (as of the end of May) and I got a warning letter, saying that at 15 pts I will be suspended.

So where is the CAA in this? Is there nobody who represents the interests of drivers?

The MTO is out of control, it must be stopped.

Did you get all or most of the points in the car ... if so that's probably why. My understanding is it's the infractions on the bike (M1/M2) you worry about for the novice penaltiies.

I see a 30-day suspension in your future.

.
..unless you're fighting the ticket.

This happened in September and I still haven't seen anything. I payed promptly (I was guilty after all). Is there somewhere that says unambiguously that you are a "novice" with an M2 regardless of how long you've had your G? That page didn't really define the term and we have two people in this thread who don't seem to have had the novice penalties applied.

The OP's original post has links that are clearer. You're a hybrid driver with a novice licence (M2) .... subject to the same penalties as someone with only a G1/G2 or M1/M2 ... when you get your infraction on your bike.

Thanks. I will point out that the second link in the op, which is quoted, appears to be outdated. It says that 6 points will get you an interview and a possible suspension, while the first link says that 4 points is an automatic suspension. I think the explanation is that the new system came into force in August of last year while the second link was last updated in July of last year, so perhaps it shouldn't be quoted in this thread :)

So by that logic, you're right, I should be getting a suspension notice. Pretty sure one hasn't arrived though. At any rate, all the more reason to be damn careful out there and to go for my M asap in the spring, which I was planning on doing anyway.

I would be careful how and if you drive in the near future. The letters can be very slow. Some people haven't found out that their license was suspended until they were pulled over, and then it becomes a much bigger issue.

You might want to check and see if your license has already been suspended before you are pulled over for it.

I'm not sure if ignorance would be a defense in this situation.
