The eywitness said the "bike that made it through" was going at a horrendous speed.
Now no question having a 77 year old put in the situation did not help, nor did the rider help by riding the shoulder which was reported.
But as to speed....this says it all. That is not a 10 over on a city stret impact.
You can choose to beleive the eye witness or not but the damage to the car is pretty strong corroborating evidence.
Both riders dying before they reached the hospital speaks to a lot of energy.
But yeah - serious misfortune and the turning driver may well have contributed.
Speaking to a cop he said the most severe accidents occur when there is high delta of speed between the bulk of traffic and a vehicle.
Hell I almost got broadsided by a cop doing twice the limit without his cherries on at dusk.
I pulled out across traffic with plenty of room but this cop came out of the group of other headlights and had to swerve.
He pulled me over but did not ticket me - I said there was no way I could tell how fast he was going as he did not have his emergency lights on. The minute a judge asked how fast the cop was going was the time any ticket would go out the window....I suspect he knew that.
Anyways - sad loss...not a thing a parent ever wants to go through.
I worry about my 22 year old when he's out but he's shown himself to be responsible with the exception of some empty roads in PA.
I feel very sad for the girl's family. She trusted her friend, as it turns out, with her life.
If not why does everyone keep making assumptions that the bike was speeding?

Andrew99 • 2 hours ago I was driving a car that was east bound when this occurred west bound
within about 5 car lengths in front of us. The wife broke into tears. There
were two bikes traveling in the same direction. The one that made it through
was going at a horrendous clip. I cannot say how fast the bike that hit the car
was going but it looked like it had run into a brick wall.
Seeing the young lady curled up in the gutter is a sight I will never forget
