What the heck is going on downtown in the last 3 weeks I've seen several bikes knocked over. Wtf, Toronto / is bad driving and lack of respect for others becoming the norm ?
 
it's been the norm, unfortunately
 
It almost makes me think that I'd be better off parking on the sidewalk (not blocking anyone)like the scooters do/ even if you end up with a ticket, its still cheaper than replacing bike parts.

Were they knocked over? Or did their stands press into the pavement and they fell over themselves?
 
With all the super hot weather lately, could some have been from the kickstands digging into the soft asphalt?

Thats how I park where ever I go now. I would rather get a $20 ticket then have my bike close to being written off again becuase someone backed into it and it just fell over.
 
I usually always park on the sidewalk or if theres a median arounf i park there. Like you said, the ticket IF you get one is waaay cheaper the the parts!
 
if you work downtown and a coworker has a spot they rent for the month for their car, ask if you can share for a small fee and park your bike at the top of their spot...just check the parking garage for the entrance and exit, you'll find the booms are a little shorter to allow bikes in and out...it's what i do at my place, except i park for free cause my co worker is really nice...never once been bothered by security because of my bike...
 
I've learned to position my bike in front of cameras. Get to know the areas you visit and park accordingly just in case you need video evidence.
 
unfortunately this happened to me. But there was no foul play. I simply parked on asphalt that had been repaved long ago (blended in with the concrete perfectly) and my kickstand sunk. Upon further inspection, there were 3 different holes in the same location... looks like someone tried to save my bike 3 times while i was at work... DAMN LONG WORK HOURS!
 
Unfortunately the cause of these bikes being toppled over wasn't caused by rider oversite/ each bike was hit by someone driving a car into or out of a parking spot on the road and in all cases the driver took off! (Jerks)

Car or SUV/Van/Pickup? In my experience the majority of these are caused by the giant vehicles, less so by cars. (not that a car has never tipped over a bike, just much less likely to do so).
