Allow Motorcycles To Use HOV Lanes

Signed.

What's the reasoning besides my being "special" for riding a motorcycle?

Is there a cohesive argument for it happening? Can everyone agree on the argument?

Not having enough seats seems to be more of a personal choice, and "will reduce the cost of medical assistance to motorcycle related accidents.", doesn't make any sense, without seeing facts and numbers to back up the statement.

Honestly, I mainly want this for selfish reasons. But there are legitimate reasons too. Off the top of my head:

- A motorcycle stuck in traffic occupies nearly the same space as a car. Allowing motorcycles to use the HOV lane is a quick and easy way to get a boat load of vehicles out of a traffic jam. And the typical rider won't hold up traffic once they are in the HOV lane unlike smart car drivers.

- Speaking of smart cars... green vehicles. They're allowed to use the HOV solely on the basis of being "green" and with no regard to # of passengers. If an exception is made for them it should be made for motorcycles also for the same reason.

- Be kind! Every rider knows how much more it sucks to be stuck in traffic on a bike than in a car. It's boiling hot, your clutch hand is cramping up and you're distracted by exhaustion. Not only is it merciful but it's safer for everyone to give bikes a way out of slow moving traffic.

so motorbikes will be allowed on the HOT if they pay the toll ?

What was the logic for allowing bikes on the DVP lanes during PanAm? Shouldn't we just have to use the same argument?

You can always buy an electric motorcycle and call it a day :)

I was talking to a good buddy and co-worker of mine from my San Diego office about lane splitting/filtering when he came up for a visit and he told me that this is illegal and should not be called this but lane sharing. He also mentioned driving on the broken line is illegal and the only way this works is if you drive to the left or right of the line.

Not quite practical yet and too expensive.
Cold weather will also hurt range .....but it is coming big time.

3- I believe there are studies from the US that support the argument that motorcyclists are safer in HOV lanes. Again, I'd have to find the links.

And to note, those arguments were so compelling that the US opened HOV lanes to single-occupant motorcycles nationally, and penalized any jurisdiction that tried to fight it (like NY).

I thought for a petition to be legit to surrender it had to be signed pen and paper. Am I wrong?

"To be certified, petitions must be written, typewritten or printed on paper of usual size. The requirement for petitions to be written or printed has been part of the written rules since Confederation. Petitions with photocopied text are acceptable. Paper of “usual size” is interpreted nowadays to mean 21.5 cm x 28 cm (8.5 x 11 inches) or 21.5 cm x 35.5 cm (8.5 x 14 inches) sheets. Petitions produced on materials other than paper do not meet this requirement; likewise petitions of a non-standard size will not be certified.
