Alarm Systems

Hi Guys,

My Insurance company told me that in order to get any damage related protection on my bike (theft, collision, etc) that I need an alarm system to be installed (I can understand that for theft, but collision!?!?).

Just wondering if anybody can recommend a reputable place to get one installed in the GTA? The closer to Thornhill the better. What would ball park pricing be like (Needs to be Arm Guard, AutoWatch, or Geurilla)?

Thanks!

i use a scopio i900
400 bucks shipped
ignition lock, tilt sensor, proximity sensor, shock sensor, ignition tampering sensor, back up battery + battery tampering sensor
2 way radio pager on a key fob that'll ring when one of those sensors go off

installation wise you can do your self in under half an hour

I got my Scorpio i800 for like $270 or something..its basically the same but without the display on the fob (its' not 2-way). That included the harness for my bike so I could install it easily without splicing wires (which I did anyways to add a switch, unsuccessfully might I add). I didn't even end up going with TD but it gives me some peace of mind from ppl who like to sit on bikes. Had the battery die once but I think that was a fluke, it never happened again.

Hi Absolute - thanks for the reply. I'll check it out. Is the installation really that simple? I'm no master mechanic or anything... ;)

Hiya bboySushi - where did you get it from? Was that installed?

yea the installation consists of really just connecting wires. might as well do it yourself than pay some one to do it lol, it comes with instructions too

If you buy the OEM connector kit for Scorpio ($25-30), it's just plug and play. The only ONE wire that you have to cut is if you have ignition immobilizer option.

+1 on the scorpio i9000.. got mine on ebay with the OEM connectors included for my bike.. installation took about 15 minutes.

Hiya Jeff - Which alarm system did you get? From where?

Thanks
Zane

Mine is a Gorilla 8007, I got it on sale from a local shop, I think they are usually around $150 new and about $120 on ebay.
Also you can upgrade the 8007 to a 2-way later on if you decided you wanted too as well.

I have the Talon T3300 Alarm. I paid about $100 for it, been using it for about 4 years with no hiccups. Never drains my battery, has a spare battery inside, very high quality stuff.

It took me about 25 minutes to install (that's with a small LED warning light that displays that the alarm is activated).

It's simple, nothing fancy like the two way stuff. Before the Talon I had a Talon i500 but it kept on driving me crazy so I scrapped it. I still have it lying around if you want it but you would need a new remote for it.

Whaohhhh, you guys need to slow down on the recommendations.

http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Autom...1343341057&sr=8-2&keywords=gorilla+alarm+8017

First off, that pager sucks. I mean, it has cool features but the range is garbage. This is the same alarm as the 8017 only it just as a regular keychain instead of the crazy pager thing that only works from a stone's throw away. It is $80 from Amazon. You can even add the pager thing later, if you want.

Also, OP, I recently bought a SS and am insured through TD as well. When they tell you that you need the alarm installed, they will always say "Professionally Installed." I decided I would ask them what their definition of professionally installed was.

The agent on the phone was unable to reference any material that he could quote verbatim as to what "Professionally installed" meant. I asked him if I could get a friend that was good at motorcycle stuff, and he said no... "You would have to get a mechanic to install it, or someone who worked for the place you bought it, like Canadian Tire"

I then ask if they require the installer to hold any type of certification. The answer was "no."

So I don't want to void my insurance policy online here, but lets just say I didn't get it installed at Future Shop. They don't even ask the model either, they only ask that the brand be Gorilla. LOL, a total joke.

It is disgustingly easy to install these alarm systems. They just connect to the battery, and then you mount the alarm on your bike wherever you can stick it. It does not connect to or in any way disable the ignition system on the bike. It is essentially a tip/vibration sensor that sounds a loud alarm, and that is it.

Good luck
