Air Canada

Saw this, and heard that they added a few letters. So, I had to look at the list and alas they still haven't added CHM, so I'm still not part of the club yet, just a lowly taxpaying sponsor.
It doesn't strike me as that inclusive at all.
That gets me to the point of this post. Usually when some corporation posts up something like this the comments are disabled. This time they are not so Air Canada must be looking for public opinion on their pet project.
So love it or hate it this is your chance to wade in and express you opinion to Air Canada with your input.

I honestly don't get what the big deal is to dedicate a month for this and a month for that.

They may want to spend the money on being on time and not canceling flights.

Born in1970 and went to a Catholic school where it was taught that homosexuality (et al) was the devils playground and that people from this community did not deserve our understanding but rather needed to be beaten back to the right way. It was nothing more than indoctrinated hatred. Today I am agnostic and at peace with it and everyone around me.

Something that I shamefully carried into early adulthood. It wasn't until I was in my mid 30's when I finally saw clear of it and put that indoctrination out of my head. To me, a person is either good or not. I do not care what your sexual preference is but understand that it is non of my business. The needle of my life does not move.

I look back on a moment when a a very good man came out to his family in the early 90's. At this point, I was still very uncertain about how I should feel about homosexuality and gave him little comfort. He was admired amongst his family and really considered the nucleus until the day he came out and they kicked him to the curb. I have not seen nor heard of him since and this is hurtful. I find myself thinking about him and how he is doing or if he is still alive. I ask members of his family and no one knows. He deserved love like everyone else. He was always the first to be there and then he was gone.

So yes, I understand why the Pride movement exists and what it's purpose is. Let's face it, as a race we are ******. Intolerant of things we do not understand and remarkably hurtful to those that are different.

Little changes are important.

I don’t care how one pursues thier own life interests. It’s not my place to judge or be offended or to be overtly supportive because I think people can be who they are.
I have a personal connection to this , my son is gay . I don’t introduce him as ‘my gay son’ nor does he follow any stereotypes , he is just who he is . In my extended family we lost members that were shut out because they were gay and thier immediate family couldn’t deal with it . Older generations that were taught intolerance by the school/church/parents .
I think it’s just fine Air Canada wants to be shown as inclusive and open. That’s good for everyone involved. I’d be happier if they could figure out flying on time and not cancelling my vacation flights.

FYI AC was first in NA for OTP at YYZ, And that says a-lot about an airline

And for the other, to each their own. Everyone is entitled to their own personal space, I respect that

2 days, 3 canceled flights to get home from Newfoundland last year has soured my opinion. They also lost my luggage.

Flair was getting flights in and out on time FFS.

Of course it wasn't their fault , so no re-embursment.

Nope sorry OPT at YYZ means best of the worst . TO to Hawaii, canceled , reroute 8 hrs later through SanFran. TO to Alaska , canceled , reroute from Van to Seattle then carrier change , which mean luggage shows THREE days later . Don’t get me wrong , they all have operational challenges , but I have been having better luck with other carriers. Two of my best friends are both Captains on AC flights so I know crews can time out and machinery can break down, when you operate that much equipment failures will happen. I also know they have canned under subscribed flights , which inconveniences me .

Why would I waste my time to tell AC to F-off, I'll just spend my time and money elsewhere. I try to avoid flying with them as they are terrible.

As for pride and corp lip service, who cares, as long as people start to be more inclusive and less of being A-holes the better.
A month long reminder to do this is better then nothing, just look how effective telling people for years to wash your hands and do basic hygine during the pandemic, to only have them revert back to bad habits instantly. So a yearly reminder for month can go a long way.

Private sector can do, promote or celebrate whatever they want...
What irks me is all time, money and resources the public sector spends on this kind of thing.
I'm working with people that get time off PAID to organize, attend and participate in stuff that (should) have NOTHING to do with ones employment.

It's a running joke, albeit not a funny one that the day of the pride parade everyone "at" work is on overtime, covering for all those absent..

I just returned from San Francisco flying AC. Normally I avoid them, but they were the only choice for non-stop by the time I finalized my plans. I got an email just 2 hours before the flight was supposed to depart YYZ that it was delayed by 1 hour with an associated 1-hour delayed arrival at SFO "for scheduled maintenance". My first thought was "BS - if it's scheduled, then the departure should have accounted for it", and hoped there wouldn't be any further delays. Then I checked the AC app and FlightAware, and they both showed the 1-hour delayed departure, but only a 15-minute delayed arrival. Then the flight actually landed on its original arrival time in SFO, so effectively no delay. I guess they must be padding the flight times now for that to work, and additionally flying faster when necessary. The flight from SFO to YYZ was not delayed at all. The app even notified me when my checked luggage was loaded onto each plane. It was a surprisingly good experience.

The normal flight speed will be a combination of fuel efficiency and desired time. They can always pour the coals to it and go faster to make up some time at the expense of more fuel...within limits.

FWIW , my go to for thirty yrs was AC because that’s how you got around , our last few long hauls have been with Air France out of YYZ , and what a pleasant surprise, the food was really good , snacks were good , wine was nice. I have a few flights with them , so far so good .

So money well spent in your opinion?

So far all good.
Thanks for asking.
If my poor financial decisions lead me to be in dire straights i will not be hitting up the taxpayers for bail out after bailout tho unlike some horrifically mismanaged airline.
Why would we not bail out a Canadian icon. I mean we’ve been doing in automotive that’s not even Canadian companies
