Advise about race classes/lessons

Not sure if that should be posted here or somewhere else in the post, so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong session.
I've been riding for few decades and I decided to try a track day, but I wanted to go for a class first, just do not want to ruin mine and somebody else experience when I try my first track day.

I saw few different courses, and felt even more lost after start to looking for, that's why I'm asking your advise, does anyone have a good race class to point me?

Thank you very much.

You wanna dabble and trackday? Or you wanna race?
Trackday? Maybe try the TMP Initiation to Trackdays school. CHeap at $170 and you get a discount on your next 3 trackdays equal to the cost of the school making it basically free. They will teach you bike and rider expectations, rules and safety, and proper trackday etiquette.

Race? You may want to look into Racer5 or FAST schools. Here you wil not only learn expectation, but will receive critique and help with your riding, and I promise your riding will improve, even in the one day you attend. There are more levels to these schools as well, allowing you to get more involved improvement help, and then put those techniques into practise.

Hi Flguti, I'll be doing the TMP Intro to Track school on May 16th as well, seems like a good deal & its only 1.5hrs drive for me.
Theres also a track day at TMP on May 9th which will be my first track day for some time as I've been off a bike for 9 years but some of my "fast group" workmates persuaded to me to go down with them & join the slow group so if anyones sees a big fat lad on a ZX7 going very slow please be patient :-)

I will take my bike for a mechanical check up, I just bought an R6, had moved to the cruise bikes some time ago, if the bike is OK I'll be doing the May 16th as well, cool, quick question:

Water in the radiator; do you guys use water or coolant, for the ones who uses water, do you run always on water or change every time you go for a track?

well, the question is not for who has a track bike, it's for who like me will take his stock bike to the track.

thank you everybody.

No glycol based coolant on any race track ever.

Most folks will put water and Water Wetter in their bike for the whole season.

Even if you are going to just to track days, I would still recommend a school. I've done Racer5, and I recommend it. I can't speak to FAST.

The one season I used my street bike I just left it with water and water wetter but ensured to change it back to coolant before the cold weather came in.

DO NOT use coolant on the track. You MUST use water or water+water wetter.

For a street bike put water + water wetter in at the beginning of the season and leave it in until winter.

Are there any track courses or track days that will let you use their bike and not make you pay if you wreck it? Kind of like the M1 exit courses (you just use their bike with no real responsibility for it).

Also, if you mix water wetter and regular coolant are you in for a bad time (as in will it wreck your bike)?

There are courses that you can use their bike, but they are about 500 bucks, and as in any M1 course, if you wreck the bike you need to pay for that.

About the water instead of coolant I understood here that you are fine to ride with that as soon as you remove that in the winter to avoid freezing damage.

That's what I understood here, if I'm wrong please someone correct me.

water wetter is to mix with distilled water in place of coolant. Mix it with coolant and it doesn't hurt bike. The point is to remove coolant from the bike, so that if you go down on the track the slippery coolant doesn't mess it up for everyone else.

You can run water with wetter all season in a street bike. Just remove before freezing temps.

They never mentioned that on my M1 course and people crashed the bikes all over the place and didn't have to pay for anything. Some were asked to leave with no refund if they crashed too much, though.

In the M1 course the chance of you completely writing off a bike is pretty low.
