Advice on offering dealer at shows.

Hello,

so as most know the show is coming up. I'm really interested in the Suzuki 1250FA.

My question is, what is considered a good price without being insulting etc. I basically looking to pick up a 2012 model that they will most likely have.

The MSRP right now is showing as $12,899 for the ABS model, 11,399 for non ABS. What is a good price to settle on in everyone's opinion?? Am I wrong in thinking dealers are motivated to sell off current models at this time of year?? Any good guidelines to go by regardless of dealer or model??

I have always had used bikes so I am a bit lost when it comes to a new bike.

Much appreciated.

I bought my current bike at the 2008 January motorcycle show. I went to every Suzuki dealer, got written quotes at each, and played them off each other. I went back to the lowest three, and eventually bought my bike at SoB. I've never been back to the dealer since, but the price was good!

whats in your avatar?

Its a 1990 GSXR 1100 with 91 bodywork(mint). That's how I got it but I am restoring the bike back to its original look and specs. I almost have all the pieces required to convert it back. Just looking for another bike when this one is on down time.

Sounds like a good idea.

I think they are definitely looking to make a sale at the shows. Would a price 20% below asking be too much??

Yes... 20% is out to lunch.
There isn't that much of a markup on bikes.
Realistically, if you can get around $500 off you're doing well (not including any manufacturers rebates).

I went with my buddy to grab a 2011 z1000.

My buddy is indecisive and kept saying he didn't like the exhaust, wanted the bars lower etc etc.

So I asked if they could throw in accesories so he could buy the bike he wants and not have to do anything to it.

Salesman said he didn't work like that but instead would take money off the base price so that we could buy some stuff.

In short I got my buddy $500 off plus a bunch of manufacturer rebates...

Just an FYI...last year at the January show...they were selling the Suzuki 1250FA fully loaded with luggage for $9999 brand new

What ever price you decide is good, make sure you specifically talk to them about the OUT the door value.. after tax and all that. Cuz they are genius at screwing you with a bunch of useless fees and extra garbage... So make sure to get a clear out the door price

Thanks for the advice guys,

I defiantly will be sticking hard to my offer. Looking to find something to ride when I'm on down time with the restoration of my 90.

Frost, I would likely be able to get it for about $9500 which is good.

I bought my bike at the show last year. Got a price from one dealer and then by chance got a better deal from another dealer. I went to GP to show them what i had and got the best deal. I got it at msrp out the door with a better financing rate.
