Accident #3 - U-turner from the right lane

The other day, I was sitting at the traffic lights above on the left lane waiting to cross Lake Shore.
As the light turned green, the car on the right lane gunned it and quickly pulled over to the curb. I thought he was dropping someone off or picking them up, but it turns out that he wanted to make a u-turn from the right lane.
As I was probably around underneath the traffic lights in the picture, he pulls from the curb and starts to move into my lane. I chose not to swerve around the moving car into the oncoming lane because of the possibility of a side impact to my motorcycle that could come from the u-turning car, so I started to brake. Not enough room to come to stop, and meanwhile my passenger takes off from his seat to backpack himself to my back. Then we make contact with the car's front bumper and stopped in the oncoming lane, somehow without dropping the bike.

Damages on the bike:
- Right fairing is cracked, but it's barely visible.

Damages on the car:
- Bumper cover came off
- A lot of scratches

Damages on me:
- Banged up knee, but it was back to normal an hour later

When I sit on my FZ6 with the legs mounted onto the tank, the outermost pieces on the side of the bike is not my leg, but the frame slider and I think engine cover ( + plastics). This fact played a huge role in saving my leg, as opposed to having it toasted between bike the and the car I believe. I can't even begin to imagine the full impact if it was straight onto my leg.

So, I think I got lucky, but then it's my 3rd accident on this bike in 12months.

I don't know if I should try to negotiate with the guy, or if I should just move on.. I got my bike written off in my previous accident and never bothered to fix the cosmetics after, so the (invisible) crack on the fairing is not really big of a deal to me.. what to do ?

For the first two accidents:

You have bad luck, or drive a bad route. The passenger did the worst thing possible by unloading the rear.

People who U-turn from the right lane should be charged with dangerous driving or something far worse that stunt driving. People get killed doing this.

Make the ****er PAY, for EVERYTHING.

It doesn't seem enough to quote someone else.

Holy! Yesterday I seen similar car making a U TURN and right into a bikers path!

Biker was a Harley, He went down with the bike. looked like he was hurt pretty bad, Car was an Impala with a women driver...

File that police report and make him pay up or he'll do it to someone else and the result may be different. Glad you are OK.

Did you Call the cops? Dude.. you were hurt.. or potentially could have been killed (both you and your passenger) 100% sure the guy will not pay when you tell him how much the "pastic" on the bike will cost to fix.. plus.. if you need medical care, you would have been covered with insurance claim on their side.

Nice guys like you will end up being burned, and people like this guy will never learn..

You were injured, even if it was minor, you can negotiate a decent payout from the driver's insurance. Hope you called the cops and got an accident report. You had the perfect witness, your passenger. This is not a situation when you play the nice guy card and let the driver go.

U-turns from the right lane with traffic around ... People who do that need to be taught, in no uncertain terms, that you don't do that.

I think you should get a setup like this

Probably in the market to buy an FZ6 next year... remind me not to get your cursed example

With strobing lights at all times. If I were Ugur, I'd stay off the bike a while. Something doesn't seem right

Please tell me you reported the accident.

Take his insurance and if you have GoPro video evidence, take it to the cop with a copy of the insurance information he provided. Never do it through side deal as you may have fractured something that will start to hurt after adrenaline stops or damage that won't be noticeable until after repetitive dexterity. If you end up with chronic pain, you'll never stop regretting not reporting this Dιckface!
