A little help from the Airheads...

My Grandfather recently passed away. Somewhat of a blessing really, as he had cancer in his jaw and it was really rough near the end.
He was a life long airhead, and Retread Riders member, (Alberta Chapter) ,when he died he owned three, a 1972 r75, a 1979 r90 with full Hannigan fairing, and his most recent purchase, a 1989 gs1000. The first two he was the sole owner from new, both are complete and will run, but have been stored for a few years. The gs has been a daily rider and is in top shape.

Some family members are fighting to get ahold of them but my dad and I think they should be sold as Grandma is still with us and could likely use the cash. I will post more pics and info on the r90 and r75 as soon as I can but the gs is 100% ready to go. Any ball park ideas on pricing? The bikes are in BC, but they'll likely be brought here for me to handle the sale. All three will likely be running and certified for the sale.
Edit: That pic was taken today, at his memorial. My Father rode it there as we couldn't imagine a memorial for Doug Nault not having an airhead around. I guess we were right, cause 57 fellow bmw riders showed up on their bikes. Most of whom were/are fellow Retread Riders members. Just beautiful...

I agree that they should be sold for money for your grandma. Is that the help you wanted?

;)

BTW, I recently sold a 1976 R90/6, complete and running, for $3400.

Sorry for your loss.

It may not be worth shipping the bikes here especially with all those rider friends you may have good prospects for the bikes.
Certainly one of his close friends could handle the sale. That GS is nice and should go for 4 to 6 K depending on the model year. Mint PD models command 10K+

Sorry to read about your Grandfather. The R100GS values are going up. Certainly somebody in BC has their eyes on that. Incidentally, I have a butchered version of that. Fine bikes.

Sorry to read about the passing of your Grandfather. Was he by any chance member of the CVMG ? I would highly recommend selling the bikes on the CVMG site. I'm sure that they would go quick.

I ride a 1972 R75/5 so I think I can commend on the pricing of that. Barn finds can go as low as 1000-1500 while decent unmolested daily riders start around 4K is. Real nice ones with lots of extra parts or LWB version can go for 6-7K depending how well they are maintained.

G.

If grandma is still around, I assume if the will didnt state otherwise, the bikes are hers. If various family want in, get an estimate and sell it to them at fair market value. If 50 guys showed for the funeral then obviously the family knows someone that can evaluate the fleet.
The executor has the say on how they are disposed of in accordance with the will. Personally I'd sell them in BC, frt to get them here will eat up a chunk of profit.

Condolences buddy, I think you may get more here than you would in BC as I think there are more of them out there, not really sure though. Airheads are the grateful dead, those that like them are usually obsessed with them, which could work out for your sale. Let me know if you want to fly out and ride them back, I could be in for that. Sweet bikes by the way.

Thanks for the replies guys, and the condolences. Grampa was a cool guy, lived life like wanted, and died without a single regret. I don't mourn his passing, instead I trumpet his life.
My Dad, grandma and I were talking last night (Skype), and figured out that he rode his 79 r90 from Calgary to Brantford Ontario 17 times over the years, many times solo. Grandma flew. Lol
Haven't fully decided on our course of action yet, but definitely giving consideration to all avenues.
