Anyone remember “Grab-On” foam handlebar grips? I had them on my 1980 Suzuki GS1100. I don’t think they made it any faster but they sure looked cool.

Not sure if mine were called grab-on, but definitely foam. Had them on several bikes, all paired with a throttle anti-spring. An anchor was wedged inside the bar. Venetian blind type spring went from there to the throttle flange. Neutralized the throttle return spring so that throttle would stay in position no-hands. Nice for touring. Can't imagine anything like that being sold today. Wasn't very popular anyway.

I went in there a few times to buy parts, Jerry the owner could be real cranky old fart if you caught him on a bad day but his wife was a real nice lady. I think they had a pretty good service shop in the back. The mechanic reminded me of Christopher Lloyd’s character in “Taxi”.Anyone who’s been there will know exactly who I’m talking about.

That would be Robin. He was there when I arrived and after I left. Charitable guy, donated everything he earned to the beer store. He talked many customers into reaming their new Suzuki mufflers with a pointed piece of rebar. There's always a small percentage of people who lap up those sort of "performance" mods, believing that the crazier the advisor acts the more the mods must work. Check out any art gallery for similar thinking. Comical and aggravating at the same time. Eventually I just ignored the antics.
I remember he had an old Honda 750 that had something like 200,000 miles on it, he rode it all year rain or shine.
