400cc bikes?

Most are twins as far as I am aware. The SV650, Gladius, and Hyosung GT650 are all v-twins. The Ninja 650R, Versys, ER6N are parallel twin (all basically the same engine actually). The new Honda 700 is also a parallel twin.

You can't always go by size, though. For example, I believe the VFR800 is a 4 while the BMW F800 series is a parallel twin again. There are also 750cc I4's while the Aprilia Shiver 750 is a v-twin.

VFR800 has V4 VTEC engine, quite unique compared to other 4-cylinder bikes.

I knew it was different but I wasn't 100% confident it was a V4. So I just said it was a 4 without indicating the layout.

You aren't giving yourself many choices. 400cc highway friendly bike? Don't think you'll have that luxury. If the insurance boogeyman is your problem, don't settle for something you won't appreciate a year later.

GSXR-400, Ninja 400, etc. All the good 400's were either never sold here or were for a small amount of time (FZR 400).
Yes, I looked into these bikes. And I absolutely love them. I did some research, but I couldn't find any on sale :(
I've heard Yamaha is coming out with a R4 but not sure it's intended for the North American market
That... is very interesting :D thanks for the heads up :D

I'm not into supemoto :D but thanks anyway :)

That's exactly why I'm not choosing 250cc. I would love to be an owner of a 600cc bike. I have the money to actually buy a used one in a good condition. But I don't have the money to pay for the insurance :(

First bike? Get a used 250 and sell it for almost what you bought it for after a year. They're plenty fast for anything legal. You'll probably drop it anyway.

I have a VFR 400 now and I can tell you it is a solid machine. You see the odd one for sale but they are pretty pricy. I had a CBR400 in the past and it was excellent too. My only complain for the VFR is that it is kinda cramped to ride for me and I'm 5'8". It is perfect for a smaller rider.

I found a really nice 1989 VFR 400 with just over 21k kms on it, if it stays at its current bid price, total with shipping via plane will end up being about $4000. Does that seem reasonable?

Edit: Made a mistake, it is 21k miles not kms. Worth it at a total cost of 4k or?

I heard the R4 is going to be a 250cc and the 4 has something to do with valves. I also heard that it will have duel disks up front.

You really want to buy a bike sight unseen? What country is it in? You want to deal with the headache of dealing with an out of province, or out of country bike?

Did you also see a picture where it looked like it was photo shopped from bits and pieces of an R6 and R1?

It is in the UK, and possibly. It comes with a full MOT which does speak well to its condition.

Well, I want to stick with a bike for at least 2 years. And as I said before 250 is too small for me, power wise.

Can you suggest any specific website that I can use to look for motorcycles? Except kijij, of course :D everybody knows kijiji

To start off I don't really wanna deal with anything outside GTA, since I don't have the access to a car. And when and if I buy a used bike, I definitely wanna meet in person and take it for a quick test ride. :D
Any suggestions what website I can use to look for a bike?

Just be aware that these JDM bikes are generally considered for enthusiasts. You'll have to be committed to spending lots more wrench time and be able to source rare parts from overseas. I wouldn't recommend one if it's going to be your main commuter or perhaps if it's going to be your very first motorcycle. Very sweet bikes though.
