The driver of the tractor, a 46-year-old Southgate man, remained in hospital where he was listed in fair condition, Grey County OPP said in a news release issued early Wednesday afternoon.
The initial investigation found that a Suzuki 750 motorcycle was travelling northbound on Sideroad 49 when it crested a hill and collided with a 7N75 New Holland tractor pulling a wagon. The tractor had exited a laneway and was crossing the road towards a field on the west side of the road when the collision occurred, the news release said.
MacQuarrie was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination was to take place on Wednesday in Owen Sound.
The tractor driver suffered serious injuries and was taken by land ambulance to a Hamilton hospital.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit assisted the Grey County OPP with the investigation, while Sideroad 49 between Southgate Rd. 4 and Hwy. 89 was closed for the safety of emergency responders.
