A motorcyclist is dead following a collision involving a police cruiser in Mississauga, Peel police say.
It happened just after 6:45 p.m. Sunday near Tomken Road and Derry Road.
There is no word on the victim's age or gender at this time.
Police told CBC News the driver of the police cruiser did not sustain any injuries.
The province's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, will be investigating, police say.
Tomken Road is closed from Derry Road to Pacific Gate for the investigation.

Mississauga, ON[FONT=&quot] (22 June, 2016) ---[/FONT][FONT=&quot]The Special Investigations Unit is appealing for witnesses who may be able to provide information about the moments leading up to a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a Peel Regional Police cruiser.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Preliminary information suggests the following:[/FONT]

  • Just before 7:00 p.m. on June 19, a motorcycle was travelling north on Tomken Road approaching Derry Road.
  • There was a collision involving the motorcycle and a police cruiser.
  • The 41-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

[FONT=&quot]Investigators would like to speak to anyone who saw [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]
  • A white Peel Regional Police cruiser traveling eastbound along Derry Road in the half hour before the collision, and/or
  • A white sport motorcycle traveling northbound along Tomken Road in the half hour before the collision.

[FONT=&quot]The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must[/FONT]

  • consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
  • report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
