2015 Yamaha R! Recall Already!!!

I change my oil once every 5 years. Why?
Somebody who take their bikes apart has a better understanding of what is going on there. How things are done & the quality of the entire bike

Ha.

This always amazes me. I have ridden for over 30 years, presently own over 12 different bikes from from 5 different manufacturers, race, street, dirt, 100 000s of kms on motorcycles...

How much would you need to ride over the years on different brands, different models to even be able to have an opinion?

Cause I must be stupid to not be able to form an opinion on the matter

Guy buys his first bike which is a GSXR600 from Vaughan that's got 20k on it and never had an oil change. Just redline after redline doing burnouts and hard-landed wheelies. Sells it after numerous issues and buys a brand new ZX6 and put 5k on it. Ranks Kawi over Suzuki in terms of quality. ;)

The R6 definitely ranks as one of the most intelligent purchases I have ever made. Having said that,Honda/Kawi/Zuki - for me they're all good...except Italian bikes.lol opps

I own a 2015 Yamaha R1 and I love it. Been the greatest summer on it with no issues and 7000km with 1 track day. Ironically I bought it because I broke the gearbox in my Ducati 999 last fall. I don't think I'm going to take the bike to a dealer to F with since its pretty much running perfect but if I was to bite the bullet and get the "slightly" stronger gears installed where exactly would the best Yamaha tech be hiding around the GTA to do the recall ??? Any recommends??

Nothing has changed. My 92 FZR1000 had a typical clutch basket that should have been replaced with a billit unit. It exploded and destroyed the engine at about 30000 kms.
Typical Yamaha transmission.

And of course before that the voltage regulator died and let unchecked current blow up my battery which melted most of my wiring insulation on the meat of the harness and modules.

Did you receive a letter from Yamaha? You should talk to the dealer to see if they're Knowledgeable about the whole situation. I think Snow City cycle has a good reputation with good mechanics.

You need to quantify this as the most intelligent "EMOTIONAL" purchase. Buying ANY motorcycle is NOT an intelligent purchase unless it makes/saves you money.

Haha. One of this holiday season's chores was to clean up my shop. I found 4 stock Yamaha FZR voltage regulators (from 2 bikes). I've retrofitted the new-technology mosfet regulators to both of them. If you own an FZR, you have either had a voltage regulator die, or soon will.

There are many excellent technicians at dealerships around the GTA. You can always check on yamaha-motor.ca to find the dealerships then call and ask about the level of factory training their techs have. I am sure they would be happy to alleviate any concerns you might have. I would not leave a recall (especially something so important to your safety) undone.

The reason there is new hardware: all the replacement components are "use-once". They are made of aluminum and can only be torqued properly once.

Please tell me it has a cassette style gearbox..

Nope. Cases have to be split. Apparently it is about 16 hours of labour by the book. Whoever does it had better know what they are doing.

Just make the paper mache one they have on the Yamaha web site. Much cheaper. The gearbox is made of paper and it's flammable, just like the real thing!

I'd rather have a recall than the company pretend it doesn't exist. Like the rectifiers on the 06-7 Suzuki's...
Out of the Yamaha's and kawis I've had the yami's have surpassed kawi in quality. I'll never own Suzuki again. And I have no issues with my Hondas.

...."slightly" stronger gears??
...actually, the new stuff is way more than "slightly" stronger.
I did my first one last week, and I took some pics...including this one which shows the original trans beside the upgraded one.
The upgraded 2nd gear is solid. No ****ery. It won't break.
I'm starting my third case on Monday morning.

That original 2nd gear looks sooooo spindly. WTF were they thinking? Was weight reduction that much of a concern or did a student/intern design that one?
