Hello folks,

I'm shopping around for new bikes.. One of the bikes I'm considering is the 2013 650R with ABS.. Should it be considered a sport bike?

TD for example, quotes me $1290ish for the remainder of the year.... This seems absurd.
Compare it with a V-Strom 650A, I got $520.

I would personally rate those bikes as being very similar in performance, just different in ergonomics.

Is such a high rate expected for the 650R in comparison to others?
 
I had a very similar issue with TD, I was quoted $117 for a Ninja 650 but only $65 for a Street Triple R...go figure.

Plus they would only cover the 650 if I put an alarm on it.
 
Yep! exactly.

No alarm needed for the v-strom. They would cover the 650 without it but they wouldn't even give me a quote with comprehensive unless they know it has an alarm. It's approaching quotes i got for 1000cc bikes.
 
In my experience TD sucks, but at last it's better than State Farm and their ridiculous quote of $1,800/yr to insure a 350cc dual-sport.... I insured it for $325/ with Duffy Insurance (Jevco) the next day.
