2005 GSXR 750 - Tell me about it...

I have a line on a very clean low km 2005 GSXR 750. I came across it unexpectedly yesterday, and will be going back to see it on Friday for a test ride, and will buy if I like it. I managed to find some reviews from the release date, and the bike sounds awesome, but was looking for some input from those that have ridden the 2004/2005 models.

Are there any particulars to be aware of? Anything to look out for in a used version? There are no signs of abuse on the outside of the bike, but does anything wear out in the first 10,000km?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Thanks. I got the sales guy to start it up for me on Tuesday and we ran it for a few minutes. I didn't hear anything unusual in the idle speed, so there shouldn't be any concerns about this?

Probably not much to worry about. All bikes have this or that they are prone to, but in reality most bikes are pretty reliable. That is a fantastic bike BTW.

Good to know. I went back to see it today and managed to get a good number from the sales guy, so I will be picking it up during the week! Really excited about getting out on the road with it and learning how a bigger bike behaves...

Get the suspension sorted out for your body weight... the stock units is pretty good. Did you get it at Blackfoot?

Hell of a bike. I love the 2004/2005 gsxr 600/750, have owned several of them. One common problem is the noisy cam chain tensioner. Replace it with a APE CCT for under 100 bucks.

Solid bike, had an 05 myself some time ago. It did leave me stranded once due to a fried reg but as far as power and the overall mannerism of the bike, it was superb.

Thinking about it now, I've had 2 other GSXRs as well in the past and they were awesome too. They're cheap and relatively reliable.

No, GW Cycle World. We went in to have a look for some jeans for my wife, so naturally I wandered off to the bikes and saw the 750. The yellow & black colour scheme is quite striking, and makes it look very different from the typical gixxers. My wife got her Aprilia Mana at Blackfoot though, so we're spreading the business around :-)

Great choice on bike. I had one for a few years and toured, commuted, and tracked it. The only colour scheme better than that one was the yellow/black from '04 which had different decals on the tail and different nose decals. Enjoyed every moment of riding it (even the close calls). I would consider the '04-'05 model years 600/750's the best looking GSXR's ever. I'd even say it's in MY top 5 best sportbikes of all time.

I miss it every single day. LOL

Thanks for the tip, I'll see if its a noise that bugs me first (if I can hear it).

I've heard it reasonably well-behaved in the midrange, but turns into a lunatic over 9500 or so. Would you agree?

I read that review before, it was one of the ones that sold me on getting the 750. The fact it has pitcures of the same colour bike I was looking at didn't hurt either :-)

All I know is that Elky RAILED on his 750 at the track .... and it had stock suspension!

I'll never forget.... JJennings about 6 degrees, first session, brand new tires, no warmers......and Elky goes blasting past me knee down all over the place, meanwhile my nose is all snotty because it was so damn cold... so I had to pull into the pits. :D
