Keep it and update the body work (I would want to update/change the bodywork before riding) this would leave me not riding probably till next spring
Try to trade it for an older 600cc bike
Or sell it to someone who wants to fix the body work (pretty much the only thing)

I like the idea of keeping because of insurance and its lighter for city riding I don't need to go 300kph either but I really like the older(2000 and up) r6's cbr's and other 600's

Intrested in your opinions
Thanks in advance

It'd be a sin to swap modern fairings onto that bike.
You want an R6? Sell the 400 to someone who will appreciate it, and get an R6

That is a rare bike. Either keep it original, or sell the bike to someone who will.

Don't update the body, keep it stock, sell the bike to someone who will appreciate it and get an older R6.

Cool bike!

It depends... what do you want from a bike?
If you want an older r6, sell this and get one.

If you want a cool rare bike, cheap insurance and good in the city this one seems to fit the bill.

If all that's bothering you is the bodywork, fix it.
Ride it without the fairings until you have them fixed.
This is one of the best style bikes ridden naked. Crashed naked 80's gixxer = cool streetfighter.
When I had it, I'd occasionally ride my 88 gsxr750 without the fairings.

Upgrading the fairings would be cool, but could be pricy. What would you upgrade to? later model gsxr400?
Sweet bike, but finding that stuff and getting it here will cost you and arm and a leg.

If it were my bike, I'd fix the bodywork and have it painted in the 89 SP colors and enjoy flogging that.

get rid of that old piece of junk

That hurts~

OP:
In the picture it seems like you have another small bike?

Why not trade your gixxer400 for an older R6 that you like?

And the gixxer400 is still nice, I like old bikes!

oh i like the 400 dont get me wrong just not in love with the old school body work if i up dated it it would be for newer 2000+ type bodywork (i would also plan to make brackets to suport the bodywork so im not wrecking the physical bike)
other then the body for me the bike has alot of benefits like the insurance and the fact its smaller and lighter for city riding and its fun
id be happy to trade it and would consider most bikes just given the choice i would go for the r6 or maybe cbr
the other bike is no longer i got rear ended on it last year and am only now starting to be able to consider riding and doing work on bikes(broke my back and mess up my head and neck pretty good). Now thats the 400 is my only bike id rather be thinking about riding then working on a bike

im open to offers on the bike through pms at this point because your right it should really be left as it was (it does need some loving but what bike doesnt)

You know what price you could command if you marketed that bike to noobs? ;)

This is my signature

You never market grey bikes to noobs .... these bikes are for people who are willing to wrench themselves, research parts, be patient and be willing to spend coin on whatever is needed.

Well I guess if I'm thinking of selling it any idea how a fair condition gsxr would be worth? Or anyone want to trade?
Plastics are ok with a bit of scrapes and the front cowl has a crack it needs a new battery and all the body work rear seat subframe and birdcage are off it right now but but ran well before I broke a car with my back last spring (trying to start getting back on two)still will fire right up on a charger
Thanks guys

yes, keep it original. DONT update the fairing! please don't. As mentioned above, its a sin. Its as hurt as seeing a ricer foxbody mustang.

The only thing you can do that's not original to the bodywork is to repaint it to a Kelvin Schwantz repica. Lucky Strike or Pepsi.

And you have to appreciate Kelvin Schwantz contribution to gp500 golden year to pull it off on a gsxr.

Wait till winter and I would be interested in a possible trade for my early R6. It is of course a racebike without street fairings, a back seat, or lights. It would be easier to remedy that by finding R6 street stuff than trying to find R6 street stuff AND custom fitting it onto a GSXR 400.
