06' Virago, Too Good to be True?

Hey guys, just about to purchase my first bike and ended up putting a deposit on a local Virago 250. The bike is listed at $2400 and looks to be in very good shape, the only issue is the odometer reads 250km. He said the bikes have sat and were pretty much never used but admitted that he purchased the bikes from a local training institue and the mileage was rolled back before being registered to them. There were also quite a few dings on the gas tank but no paint was missing (what could cause this type of damage?)


Anyway, here's the ad. Any advise would be appreciated.

P.S. - He is selling two of them. One is his and the other his wifes, they both have another set of sport bikes that they claimed to have purchased 4-5 years ago.

My bet. Are you sure about the mileage being rolled back, though? Does anybody know / remember if the Humber College bikes had their gauges removed for use in the program?

If the thing was ridden in parking lots all it's life, I think the mileage would be accurate.
That being said, I would not buy an ex-school bike.

RTI does for sure. I also wouldnt buy an ex training bike, that thing will have been thrashed to hell.

Dude they used this bike 6 years in a parking lot and it only has 250 km's and you think it's "accurate"? LOL. An average human being walks 3 km a day, even the ones that do not work, just pacing back and forth, think about it.

From what I remember (Humber Mississauga) .. No gauges no lights and turn signals ..
I remember not knowing how fast I was going .. All they had in the handle bars was a sticker that said "eyes up"
And a green led to tell u ur in neutral.
They probably install all stock parts once they sell it.

IMO they would be risky to buy .. 5 bikes got drop on the two days I was there .. I sure it happens quite frequently ..

Eh ... they're just pre-dropped, that's all. Flopping over in a parking lot won't do much to them. All I would really be worried about is if there was any clutch left. :P
 
Didn't Cycleworld or someone have a bunch of these for sale last fall. $800 to $900 as is, or $1500 with all the parts put back on them?
Who knows how many miles are on them. Sounds like someone is trying to turn it into money
Still, not a bad deal, but I'd offer $1600
