I have the exact same issues. Got replacement units, and they completely died during our Myrtle Beach trip. Not impressed after dropping 480 for a pair.

I have an '09 tourer. Awesome bike with absolutely zero problems. Will be keeping it for a long time. Airbox mod, Cobra slipon, K&N filter, and Cobra FMS, and the bike woke up. Lots of power, and very comfortable (with new handbars).

Had the same problems, and returned them. Now have two new units. Hopefully, they work better.

I have a VStar 1300 (09), and love it. After I did a few upgrades, the engine woke up and is now one of the best I've ever owned. Cobra slipon, airbox drillout, and CObra FI2000R FMS, and it is extremely torquey (not SS torque, but much better than stock). I would buy another in a heartbeat...

Make a reservation for the ferry and plan on it being changed on you. Have done the trip a few times, and its 50-50 that you get bumped (they always call a day or two before hand while you're on your way there...:(.
