I bought a Bass Pro Shops 1 person tent. It isn't the best quality, but it is definitely waterproof. Like any tent, it should be seam-sealed before. It poured rain the night we slept and the tent didn't leak a drop. I don't know about the longevity of this tent though.

As it has been said quite a few times... it really depends on how mechanically inclined you are. If you know ****all about fixing motorcycles, then you might want to go buy new enough that it still has a warranty. ;) But if you find pleasure in working on bikes, then the older the better...
