    Brightside customs - any thoughts?

I am located in the heart of downtown and I have been looking for a powder coating company that can blast off old powder coat and apply some new powder coat. All aluminum parts. Most places I have been finding are very far for me to drive, so I found this place -...

Purchasing motorcycle in dead of winter

I got a 2000 Suzuki GS500e. The naked one. As my first bike and its been great to me. enough power for most city roads. The power is decent but you will not get into too much trouble. Its cheap as hell on insurance and maintenance cant be any easier or cheaper than most bikes. I keep it really...

    My fairings melted?

Is the actual plastic damaged? Brake fluid can strip paint sometimes like butter. Like Heylerds said. Maybe check for brake fluid leaks under pressure? If there's even the tiniest bit that drips down it will strip some paints.

    FZR400 winter overhaul

That's a trick used by many that do porting on aluminum heads. That's how I discovered it.

    Great Bike Video

Umm, decent video, but as far as Ducati being able to make better, I think they would kill this movie in production quality alone. Let alone camera angles, lighting, music, etc.

    FZR400 winter overhaul

Great Thread dedication Brian! Its like reading a shop manual as I read your thread. Clear, concise and I feel like you really know what your talking about. Great job on the bike too. I love the attention to detail and care you put in. Cant wait to see the painted parts.

Best place to get various OEM nuts/bolts online in Canada?

Let me reiterate, Don't just walk in with no info and a vague size of the bolt you are looking for, expecting to get helped or sold individuals. The stores mostly carry packs of 100s and most will not break those packs open for you. You have to get the single unit SKU from the website. And wait...

Best place to get various OEM nuts/bolts online in Canada?

There's a trick to ordering bolts and nuts from Fastenal. Some locations the guys are grumpier than some but if you fight back they usually give in. Im on a name by name basis (no account) and I used them exclusively for my latest ground up bike build. What you have to do is, go to the website...

    TDMM cancellation due to non-payment

I had something similar happen many moons ago. I had lost my job and knew I would not be able to make my monthly insurance payments. So, I called the insurance company and talked with an agent. I told them my info, my policy number and the date I wanted to cancel on. She recorded all the...

    Compression Test when Buying Bike

Im not too familiar with every model of bikes spark plug size, but 14mm is pretty big (that's 'B' Size). That's standard car size. A 2000 gsxr takes a 'C' size - 10mm where my 1978 CB550 take a 'D' size - 12 mm. You can find out what type of bike it is (im sure you know since your thinking of...

    Compression Test when Buying Bike

Make sure if you buy one from princess auto, that it has the right size adapters for the sparkplug threads. Cars are bigger than bikes and I find most princess auto stuff is meant for cars/trucks/farm equipment. I was able to find a compression tester kit at Part Source that had the right size...

    Got vintage?

Thanks Jeff ! Im a fan of yours too. Your RZ is most def. considered vintage in my books. The Vintage Racing League goes to 1989 and in some cases newer if the model didn't change much. Theres plenty of articles lately discussing this topic of bikes like yours and newer being considered 'vintage'.

    Got vintage?

Some great bikes all. I love the older bikes! Ive got a 1978 Honda CB550 that's sorta vintage. I customized it and put 2006 gsxr 600 forks and brakes on it. I tried to upload some pics but it would not work. Kept getting some error. So here is a link to some video of my first test rides after...

2000 GSXR no spark after spark plug change

Update: The bike is now running fine. I took GateKeepers advice, cleaned the ends of the plug wires and screwed back on the plug caps. They didn't look melted, but for some reason It fired up almost right away after reassembly. I gave it a good test ride and checked over the charging system and...

Why I don't think fuel stabilizer on an EFI bike is necessary

The Gas that was in the GPz was only a couple months old at most. I was shocked myself that the gas had gone bad that quickly. An auto shop teacher friend was actually the one to catch that the gas had gone bad. While looking at the bike, he was able to smell the gas and notice it smelled 'off'...

Why I don't think fuel stabilizer on an EFI bike is necessary

I agree to some extent but not all points. Ive been putting the fuel stabilizer in my bikes for a few years now and what I notice in the spring is my bikes run like crap first tank of fuel. Stabilizer or not. I even had a 3 month old tank of fuel (stabilized) in my GPz 750 go so bad it wouldn't...

2000 GSXR no spark after spark plug change

plug was definitely grounded. I used something similar to this device to check the spark. You plug it into the spark plug socket in place of the spark plug and connect the other end to the engine block ground. It shows you the spark with a proper gap.
