Progressively wound valve springs. Which way up??

After installing the first valve on the head of my '72 (ish) CB750 I realized that both inner and outer springs have two tighter coils on one end. My feeble brain can't see that it should make any difference but I'm pretty sure it does. Which end should go up with the keepers.

    Wood cooking stove

My nieghbour upgraded the wood stove in his garage and he's looking to get rid of the old one. It's a white coloured wood burning kitchen stove. Not only did it keep his garage warm for many a matinee but on top of that it cooked many a tasty treat. Pigtails anyone?? He wants it gone. Pretty...

    Any Burgman owners??

Some background: I've been riding well over 40 years. Some of my best trips were 2up with the Squeeze on a 1200 GoldWing. (even scraped pegs at the Gap) When my hips got bad the Wing had to go. I can still ride solo no problem but 2up rides don't last long before I'm feeling cramped and don't...

    40% off tires

At Inglis Cycle in London. Was picking up my new lid and saw tires on sale. 40% off most tire plus $10 or $20 off on certain Dunlops if you get them installed. I bought a new tire for the drag Wing's '78 CB750F front wheel. An IRC tire for $88.

    Klim gear warranty claims

After the first rain test a few weeks ago (about a half hour ride in moderate rain) my butt was damp. Pants are supposed to be "waterproof". When I spoke to the Klim CSR she said they're goretex and supposed to be waterproof so I should not have experienced the dampness. She then explained the...

    AGV helmets

Was shopping for a lid today and found the AGV K6 ($632) . It's a carbon fibre helmet so it's quite light and best of all I can get it in plain white. One of the few makers whose willing to paint CF it appears. Anybody got one? Any good reason not to pull the trigger?

Who needs rear brakes on a Wing??

A guy mailed me a rear brake caliper for my Wing that he took off a parts bike he had. After using grease to push the pistons out I found that someone had done work on this caliper before me. The square profile piston seals had been replaced with O rings!

    Who's gonna tell him?

    Muffler clamps

I'm going to be using sections of 2" muffler pipe for the ends of my exhaust. Standard muffler clamps with the "U" bolt and saddle will look big and ugly in this application. Gear clamps might work if I slit the end. That seems a hacker method and the slits could leak. Anyone know of an...

    Fouling plugs

Starts first or second pull. Runs great. Punch it and there is no lag it just goes. However if I'm not on the throttle it will foul up pretty quickly. Following someone slowly fouled the plugs. Waiting too long at a busy road crossing will do it too. Is this fouling plugs on the low end just...

    Interesting break down stories?

In the interest of @PrivatePilot I thought this might be good winter time filler. I've dicked with bikes at the side of the road a few times but never had any real issues. We boosted my DRZ400 in the Ganny once using two wrenches as booster cables. We did abandon my buddies 750 Ninja on the...

    sticky throttle

83 Gl1100 Working the carbs by hand they snap back shut very well. Took the twist/grip/ cables off and lubed them. They work mint. If I install the cables with no bends just holding them up straight the throttle works well. Routeing the cables properly adds a couple bends (very generous radius)...

    Bearings OK. What about seals?

After my last post I'm good on the bearings, but what about ordering seals?. In thee All Balls steering bearing kit you get a seal for the bottom. A large very thin fender washer with a rubber seal around the outside. (fits under the bottom race on the stem) How and where can I order these kind...

How much steering rotation lock to lock?

So in the process of grafting the the 750 front end to the Wing I had to cut off the original wing steering stops - they would not work with the stops on the 750 lower triple. I now need to add stops to the neck. Since I've made up some radical rear sets it seems only fitting that the bars be...

    Fire extinguisher testing

I have a couple units that have been around so long I no longer trust them. Is it just cheaper to buy new? One is the small inside a car size and the other is maybe 6" diameter and 16" tall.

    Rear master cylinder

I'll be dramatically repositioning the RMC due to changes in the peg position (rearsets for GL1100 drag bike project)). The old wing rear was linked front and back but I'm going to discon the front cylinder and just run one disc front and back. The orig parts are tough and need kits if not a...
